Jimmy Howard News

Howard vs. Brodeur on Tuesday.

Howard allowed one goal on 20 shots in a 2-1 OT win over the Canadiens last Wednesday. The Red Wings continue to deal with a ton of injuries and will need Howie to be exceptional for them down the stretch. He draws a strong matchup tonight, but the Wings will be without Datsyuk and Zetterberg among others.

Howard gets the start vs. Montreal.

Howard did not play a game for Team USA in the Olympics, but that was expected. Heading into the Olympics he won three of five games with a 2.72 GAA and .895 SV%. With 24 games remaining, the Red Wings need him to be more consistent down the stretch if they are going to make the playoffs. Tonight vs. Montreal is a huge game for Detroit.

Howard allowed a single goal on 24 shots in a 3-1 win over the Panthers on Thursday. Howie likely won't see much action in Sochi as he sits behind Ryan Miller and Jonathan Quick, so he will go again tonight in Tampa Bay. The Lightning have lost four of their last five and may have to start their third string netminder, Howie should make for a good start tonight.

Howard stopped all 16 shots that he faced after replacing Jonas Gustavasson, who left after the first because of dizziness on Monday. Howard sits at 11-12-9 with a 2.70 GAA and .913 SV% this season and draws a strong matchup against a Panthers team who have lost four of six.

Howard will be in goal on Sunday.

After missing four games with a knee injury, Howard returned to the crease and stopped 26 of 29 shots in a shootout win over the Capitals on Friday. This afternoon he will face Washington once again. If you need the goalie numbers, get him in your lineup, if not leave him out.

Howard in goal for the Red Wings on Friday.

Howard missed the last four games with a knee injury that he suffered last Monday against the Blues. Before getting inured, Howard was playing his best hockey of the season. In three and a half games he had stopped 143 of 150 shots (.953 SV%) winning two out of three and leaving early in the 4-1 loss to St. Louis. The Red Wings are decimated by injuries, so Howie will need to re-gain that top-form on Friday.

Howard (knee) is expected to dress on Tuesday.

Howard has been scratched for the last three games because of a knee injury. Petr Mrazek has been reassigned to Grand Rapids which says that Howie is ready to return to the crease. Jonas Gustavsson struggled on Sunday, so there is a good chance that Howard will start in Philadelphia tomorrow.

Howard has some fluid on his left knee, will stay off of the ice for a week.

This is bad timing for Howard who just started to get his game on track recently. Luckily for the Red Wings Jonas Gustavsson will return to the crease on Wednesday after missing nine games with a groin injury. Petr Mrazek will stay with the team while Howie is out.

Howard (knee) left Monday's 4-1 loss midway through the second period.

Howard had been playing well despite allowing three goals on 25 shots. The Blues were all over the Red Wings for the large majority of Monday's contest and Howard was up to the test, until he was forced from the game with a knee injury. Howard will be reevaluated today. Howie had just started to get his game back on track, so missing any time would be a tough break for he and his fantasy investors. Jonas Gustavsson is expected to return Wednesday against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks, giving the Wings a tandem of Gustavsson and Petr Mrazek.

Howard stopped 44 of 45 shots in a 3-1 win over the Kings on Saturday. It was a fantastic display of goaltending on Saturday, but Howard needs to string a couple of strong outings together, he has been frustratingly inconsistent this season. Tonight he will face the Rangers for the second time, the Red Wings were defeated in OT the first time around.

Howard gets his fifth straight start on Saturday.

Howard was pulled after he allowed four goals on 23 shots in the first two periods of Thursday's 4-1 loss in San Jose. It has not been a pretty season for Howard, but he has an extremely banged up lineup playing in front of him, so it is not entirely his fault. On Saturday he meets the Kings for the first time this season, he was 2-1-0 with a 1.67 GAA and .950 SV% against last season.

Howard gets the nod on Thursday.

Howard is coming off of a 44-save performance in a 5-1 win over the Stars on Saturday. Remarkably that was Howard's first win since November 29, however he had only started four games in between. Howard played very well in the Winter Classic, stopping 24 of 26 shots in regulation and OT, but his shootout struggles continued as he took his fifth shootout loss of the season. He'll jump back into the net tonight against a Dallas team who beat him 4-3 in OT on November 7.

Howard said he thinks he can play tomorrow but he felt soreness in the knee today and needs to talk to the doctor for final clearance.

Obviously this is not a confirmation but with Gustavsson sidelined, Howard starting is a distinct possibility. If he can't go, Petr Mrazek has a great opportunity for a spot start.

Jimmy Howard
