John Marino has been activated off the injured reserve and is expected to play Monday vs. Vancouver (upper body).

Marino hasn't played since December 20th due to an upper-body injury but will return to the Devils' lineup Monday vs. Vancouver. The 25-year-old defenseman has been great in his first season in New Jersey and will make a welcome return with three goals, six assists, 42 SOG and +11 plus/minus through 32 games prior to the injury.

John Marino is considered day-to-day after not practising Wednesday (upper body).

Marino has played in all 23 Devils' games this season and will be a massive blow if he is forced to miss time due to an upper-body injury. The 25-year-old has been a revelation in his first season with New Jersey, with two goals, six assists and a +15 plus/minus through 23 games.

The Devils have acquired John Marino from the Penguins for Ty Smith and a 2023 third-round pick.

Marino is a solid two-way, puck-moving defenseman that is an upgrade defensively from Smith. Marino should fill a top-4 role in New Jersey and will chip in a little offence, averaging 27 points (4G / 23A) per 82 games throughout his career.

The Penguins have signed John Marino to a six-year extension worth $26.4 million ($4.4M AAV).

Marino was originally drafted in the sixth-round by the Oilers but was traded to Pittsburgh for a sixth-round pick back in the summer of 2019. What a trade that has turned out to be for the Penguins. Marino had a terrific rookie season, compiling six goals with 20 assists (26 points) in 56 games. He averaged over 20 minutes per game in 2020 and should continue to eat huge minutes in the Penguins' top-4 in 2021.

Marino has three broken bones in his cheek and will need surgery.

Marino will be sidelined indefinitely with a broken cheek that he suffered while taking a Steven Stamkos shot in the face on Thursday night. Marino filled in admirably when the Penguins were banged up and turned himself into a reliable top-4 defenseman this season, so this is a huge loss for the Penguins.
