The Devils re-signed Jon Merrill to a two-year deal worth $2.275 million ($1.137M AAV).

Merrill, 24, has spent the last three years with the Devils and with this signing will be with them for at least two more seasons. He is coming off of a disappointing year, having totalled just five points (1G / 4A) in 47 games, giving him 30 points (5G / 25A) in 165 career NHL games.

The Devils have placed defenseman Jon Merrill (arm) on injured reserve retroactive to November 1st.

Merrill, who is not with the team on its midwest trip, was slashed during Saturday's home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He won't be in the lineup tonight, but will be eligible to play in their next game on Monday. However, he will need to join the team in Boston.

The Devils have recalled Jon Merrill from Albany (AHL) on an emergency basis.

Merrill suffered a concussion in the first period of his NHL debut on November 3. Merrill is expected to dress tonight with Adam Larsson out after crashing into the board on Saturday. Merrill has two goals and eight points in 14 games with the Albany.

Merrill, who was making his NHL debut, was tripped into the boards by Torrey Mitchell of the Wild and suffered facial lacerations and a head injury on Sunday. He flew back to New Jersey with the Devils and it is very possible that he suffered a concussion.

"He's seeing a neurologist today to see exactly where he's at," general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "He came back with us. He was certainly okay to travel. It is not something that is interpreted immediately as anything long term, but he's got to be 100 percent right. He got quite a jolt there and quite a cut." There are no plans to send Merrill back to Albany (AHL) while he is still ailing.

The Devils have recalled Jon Merrill from Albany (AHL).

Merrill was the 38th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He is a solid two-way defenseman, who is a great skater and puck distributor. Merrill had a strong pre-season and could have made the team out of camp, but was sent to Albany for seasoning. With Peter Harrold and Bryce Salvador on IR a spot has opened up for him. Merrill has two goals and five assists in 11 games with Albany.
