The Canadiens have signed Josh Anderson to a seven-year contract worth $38.5 million ($5.5M AAV).

After acquiring Anderson from the Blue Jackets, GM Marc Bergevin inked the rugged winger through the 2027 season. The deal leaves the Canadiens with ≈$5.37M in cap space heading into free agency. Anderson, Shea Weber, Jeff Petry and Carey Price are the only four skaters in Montreal currently signed through the 2024 season.

Josh Anderson
The Canadiens have acquired Josh Anderson from the Blue Jackets for Max Domi and a 2020 third-round pick (No.78 overall).

Anderson dealt with shoulder issues all throughout 2020, limiting him to just 26 games and four points (1G / 3A). In 2019, Anderson scored a career-high 27 goals with 20 assists (47 points) in 82 games. He was one of three players who had 20-plus goals and 200-plus hits in 2019--Alex Ovechkin and Blake Coleman were the other two, pretty good company. Anderson's rugged style of play is exactly what the Habs were in search of and he will pair nicely on the second line with Nick Suzuki.

The Blue Jackets added Josh Anderson (shoulder) to their 34-man roster on Sunday.

Anderson has not played since December 14th and underwent shoulder surgery in March. Anderson skated on his own on Sunday but has yet to join the team sessions. Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella had "no information at all" on Anderson, so it's unclear whether the power-forward could be ready for the Maple Leafs or any potential series beyond that.

The Blue Jackets have activated Josh Anderson (upper-body) from IR; expected to play on Monday.

Anderson has missed the past six games due to an upper-body injury that he suffered on October 5th. Anderson’s return will be a huge boost to the Blue Jackets’ offence, which currently sits 29th in the NHL in goals-per-game (2.25). Anderson scored 27 goals with 20 assists (47 points) in 82 games a season ago.

Anderson is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury; will not play on Monday.

Anderson played 16:54 and 16:01 TOI in his first two games of the season but will come out of the lineup vs. Buffalo. Anderson battled a lingering shoulder injury throughout training camp but there’s no evidence that it’s the same injury. Sonny Milano will replace Anderson in the Blue Jackets lineup.

Anderson is not expected to be in the Blue Jackets’ opening night lineup.

Anderson missed training camp due to a contract dispute, but signed a three-year deal on Tuesday. Despite inking a new contract, head coach John Tortorella said that Anderson is out on Friday. Anderson will likely need a few practice sessions to get back into the swing of things, but don’t expect the power-forward to sit out for too many contests.

The Blue Jackets signed Josh Anderson to a three-year contract worth $5.55M ($1.85M AAV).

Anderson held out of training camp as an unsigned RFA, but gets a contract one-day before the start of the NHL season. The 23-year-old is coming off of 17-goal, 12-assist season and will look to carve out a larger role this season. Missing training camp will put Anderson behind the 8-ball and likely force him to start the season in the bottom-6.
