The Rangers have signed Julien Gauthier to a one-year contract extension.

Gauthier was called up on Monday and will play in his third NHL game of the season. The 22-year-old power-forward has scored 10 goals with two assists (12 points) in 22 AHL games this season and will skate on the fourth line with Jordan Martinook and Brock McGinn in Edmonton.
Gauthier did not record a point while playing just 8:25 ATOI and returns to the AHL ahead of the Hurricanes California road-trip. Brian Gibbons was recalled to take his spot on the roster.
Gauthier was one of the last cuts in training camp and started the AHL season with two goals in two games. The 6-foot-4, 225 lbs. winger was the No.21 overall pick in 2016 but could have a tough time carving out a meaningful role on a deep Hurricanes squad.
