With Derek Forbort on long-term injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, Lohrei has been recalled from the Providence Bruins of the AHL and will likely be with the team until Forbort returns which will not be until, at the earliest, December 31st. The 22-year-old Lohrei made his NHL debut earlier this season, playing well in 10 games with the Bruins, scoring four points (1G / 3A) and averaging 17:35 time-on-ice.
Lohrei played very well in his first taste of the NHL, recording four points (1G / 3A), 17 SOG and a minus-3 rating in 10 games. He gets sent to the AHL along with Patrick Brown in order to make room for Matt Grzelcyk to be activated from LTIR ahead of Saturday's game.
Lohrei is likely to make his NHL debut on Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Lohrei was one of three defensemen recalled by Boston from Providence (AHL), along with Ian Mitchell and Parker Wotherspoon, as they will be without regulars Matt Grzelcyk (upper-body) and Charlie McAvoy (suspension). Lohrei was the Bruins' 58th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and has four points (0G / 4A) in seven games at the AHL level this season.
Lohrei was Boston's 2020 second-round pick (58th overall) and earned his first career call-up Friday from Providence (AHL) after putting up two assists, two PIMs, and a +3 plus/minus through five games in 2023-24. The 22-year-old defenseman will make his NHL debut if he finds himself in the Bruins lineup this weekend after playing in only 10 total AHL games after joining Providence from Ohio State (NCAA) at the end of his collegiate career in 2022-23.
