Of note, though, is Matt Lombardi, who has been cleared for full contact practice for time since camp began (he’s rehabbing from a concussion). Lombardi is a real threat to Darryl Boyce and Phillipe Dupuis for the fourth line centre job.
Sounds like the speedy Lombardi will start the season on the fourth line as he eases back into an NHL role. Last season he managed to only play two games following a concussion. He could be a very valuable contingency plan should he bounce back.

Lombardi said he’ll know more this week, after he meets with team doctors, whether he’ll be ready for training camp.
By all accounts it sounds like Lombardi will play this season. With Tim Connolly and Mikhail Grabovski down the middle, Lombardi will be eased back into the lineup.

The deal with the Leafs sent defenseman Cody Franson and injured center Matthew Lombardi to Toronto in exchange for defenseman Brett Lebda and 22 year old Robert Slaney who played mostly in the ECHL last season. Also in play is a 2013 fourth round pick with the Preds receiving one from the Leafs if Lombardi plays in 60 games over the next two seasons and the Leafs getting the Preds' if he doesn't.
