Matthew Poitras News

Poitras is making an earlier-than-anticipated return to the Bruins after an abrupt exit for him and the rest of the Canadian team at the World Junior Championship. In five tournament games, Poitras scored four points (2G / 2A). Before leaving the Bruins to join Team Canada, Poitras had only six points (1G / 5A) in his last 16 games after scoring seven points (4G / 3A) in his 11 games prior.

Poitras has been impressive in his rookie season with the Bruins but has seen a decline in his play lately, scoring only six points (1G / 5A) in his last 16 games after scoring seven points (4G / 3A) in his 11 games prior. The Bruins hope participating in the World Jr Tournament along with Team Canada can help him elevate his game and re-spark his confidence.

The Bruins coaching staff is implementing some load management tactics for 19-year-old rookie Poitras as he is expected to sit for the second time in the last four games. After posting seven points (4G / 3A) in his first 11 games, Poitras' game has fallen off slightly, posting only five (1G / 4A) in his last 15 games.

Poitras was drafted in the second round (No.54 overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old centre led the Guelph Storm (OHL) with 95 points (16G / 79A) in 63 games during the 2023 season.
