Dowd has missed the last four games but was on the ice for the morning skate and will be a game-time decision vs. the Hurricanes. If he plays, Conor Sheary and Garnet Hathaway will be on his wings.
Dowd did not come onto the ice for warmups on Sunday and the team announced that he's day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Brett Leason replaced him in the lineup.
Dowd missed the last four games while in COVID-19 protocol but is set to play Wednesday in Chicago. Dowd will be back in a familiar spot on the Capitals' fourth line and comes in with seven points (3G / 4A) in 16 games.

Dowd's move to IR means he will miss at least one more game and it opens up a roster spot to call-up a forward to fill-in for Nicklas Backstrom, who is now dealing with an upper-body injury of his own.
The Capitals will likely need to recall a forward to replace Dowd in the lineup on Friday night. Dowd suffered a deep cut on his hand in Philadelphia and will likely need a couple of days to let that heal before re-entering the Washington lineup.
