Nick Jensen News
Jensen suffered an upper-body injury last Thursday and is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks. Luckily for the Capitals, it looks like they will get both John Carlson and Dmitry Orlov back on Monday.
Jensen suffered an upper-body injury in Boston on Thursday and will be a game-time decision for Saturday's game vs. the Senators. Monitor his status as the Capitals hit the ice for warmups at 6:30 PM ET.
Jensen was a healthy scratch on Saturday but will replace Radko Gudas in the lineup tonight vs. the Islanders. Jensen has had very little success offensively this season, posting four assists in 54 games.
Jensen was acquired from Detroit and signed an extension with Washington on Friday but did not get in until after midnight, so he will sit for their first game. Jensen will likely replace Christian Djoos or Brooks Orpik on Sunday.
The Capitals acquired Jensen from the Red Wings on Friday afternoon and wasted no time signing the 28-year-old to an extension. Jensen carried a +1.1 CF% rel in 60 games with the Red Wings this season, picking up two goals and 13 assists (15 points) along the way.
Jensen was a fifth-round pick back in 2009 and was a late-bloomer. Jensen didn’t make his NHL debut until 2017, after 222 career AHL games, and never looked back. Jensen is a reliable two-way defenseman that can be leaned on to kill penalties. He will likely line-up next to Brooks Orpik/Christian Djoos in the third pairing.
Jensen, 26, has impressed the Red Wings since being called up in mid-December. The American-born defenseman has three goals and five assists (eight points) in 27 games with the Red Wings after he had six points (1G / 5A) in 27 games with the Griffins. He is a really strong skater and should be part as the Red Wings’ top-6 next season.
Jensen, 26, has been recalled to serve as an extra defenseman during the Red Wings’ three- game road trip. The 2009 fifth round pick has one goal and five assists (six points) in 27 games with the Griffins. Don’t expect him to make his NHL debut unless one of the Red Wings’ regular defensemen gets injured.
Jensen was recalled for Monday’s game, but did not get into the lineup. He has been sent down to play with Grand Rapids over the NHL All-Star break.
