Mrazek allowed five goals on 35 shots in the Red Wings’ 6-4 loss to the Lightning on Thursday. That stat line is no an accurate representation of how Mrazek played though. The 24-year-old made a number of highlight reel saves and if it weren’t for him, Detroit would have given up eight goals. Three of the five goals also came on the man advantage. Tonight he will face the Panthers, who he was 1-0-1 with a 0.99 GAA and .964 SV% against last season.

Mrazek will start the Red Wings' season opener in Tampa Bay.

Mrazek’s first year as an NHL No.1 was a tail of two halves. In the first four and a half months, he was one of the best goalies in the league, going 21-10-4 with a 1.94 GAA and .934 SV%—both first in the NHL at the time. However, his final 17 games resulted in a 6-6-2 record, 3.32 GAA and .887 SV%. The young netminder bounced back in the postseason and should be more prepared for a full-season worth of starts, making him a borderline No.1 fantasy option. That said, he draws a tough matchup in his first game of the year.

The Red Wings re-signed goaltender Petr Mrazek to a two-year deal worth $8 million ($4.0M AAV).

The Red Wings and Mrazek were reportedly pretty far apart during their contract negotiations, but were able to come to terms on a two-year bridge deal. Mrazek became the Red Wings’ No. 1 goaltending option in 2015-16, starting 49 games (appearing in 54), posting a 27-16-6 record, 2.33 GAA, .921 SV% and four shutouts. He will have the same role in 2016-17, where he will likely start near 50 games again and should be a low-end No.1, high-end No. 2 fantasy option.
