Asplund, who had one goal and two assists in 28 games with the Sabres earlier this season, is expected to replace Johan Larsson in the lineup on Tuesday. The 22-year-old has nine points (1G / 8A) in his 18 AHL games.
Asplund was called up because Johan Larsson is banged up. The 2016 second-round pick will centre the fourth line and comes up from the AHL with 49 points (11G / 38A) in 88 career games with Rochester.
There's no indication of who Asplund might be coming up for, but the 2016 second-round pick (No.33 overall) has collected eight points (1G / 7A) in 13 AHL games this season. He has not appeared in an NHL game to-date.
