Sheahan, 24, had 14 goals and 11 assists (25 points) in 81 games in 2015-16. It was a down year for the 2010 first round pick considering he notched 36 points (13G / 26A) in 2014-15.
Sheahan missed yesterday’s game with an illness, but will be back in the lineup tonight vs. the Panthers. Sheahan has not scored in seven games and comes in with 13 points (7G / 6A) in 49 games this season. With Sheahan back in, Teemu Pulkkinen will be a healthy scratch.

Sheahan had been playing on the Red Wings second power-play unit, but he will switch spots with Darren Helm as the net-front presence on the Wings top-unit. Sheahan has just one assist through five games, but this move should help him pick up some power-play points in the short-term.
Sheahan, 22, is coming off a solid rookie season. Recalled from the Grand Rapids midway through the season due to the Red Wings' rash of injuries, Sheahan quickly established himself a dependable two-way player. Sheahan has scored three goals while adding eight assists (11 points) in 18 games wit the Red Wings this season. He has displayed an impressive ability to be a productive playmaker at the NHL level in a short period of time with Detroit. The Red Wings will need their 2010 first round pick to continue to play well while Stephen Weiss and Henrik Zetterberg remain out of the lineup.
With the Red Wings missing Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm and Johan Franzen, they are in need of another centre, hence the recall of Sheahan. Sheahan recorded two assists in four games with the Red Wings, both came in a game vs. the Maple Leafs on December 21. He could find himself in the lineup in Los Angeles on Saturday.
