Roman Hamrlik News

"He got a cross-check and he's fine," the coach said. "He was not fine enough to play, but he, from what I've been told, is day-to-day."

Losing Hamrlik should cause the team to recall a defenseman from the Hershey Bears. Prior to getting hurt, the veteran scored one goal through 15 games. His injury creates a big hole on the Caps' blue line.

Hamrlik’s presence on the power play adds a different look for a team that has long lacked a left-handed defenseman comfortable playing the point with the man advantage.

Hamrlik will probably man the point on PP2 with Mike Green and Alex Ovechkin expected to quarterback the top unit. Last season, Hamrlik scored five goals and 34 points in 79 games for the Montreal Canadiens with 15 coming via PP. Expect him to approach those totals this season with the Caps.

Veteran blueliner Roman Hamrlik hopped off the ice shortly after his group started their skating tests. Hamrlik felt some tightness in his groin, but believes he’ll be good to go for Sunday’s session.

Probably nothing to worry about but the Caps will take it easy with their new d-man. Last season, the 37-year-old scored 5 goals and 34 points with 81 PIM and a plus-6 rating. He should easily top those totals if he plays with Mike Green for a full season.
