Ryan Miller News

Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins gave strong hints that Miller will start on Thursday.

Miller was yanked on Tuesday after he allowed five goals on 13 shots vs. the Stars. There were some weird bounces on Tuesday night, but Miller was shelled early. If he gets back in the cage tomorrow he draws a really tough matchup against his former team.

Miller had a nice Canucks debut, stopping 23 of 25 shots in the 4-2 win over the Flames. With the jitters of game 1 behind him, look for another strong outing by Miller as he faces an Oilers team who lost to the Flames a night after the Canucks beat Calgary.

Miller will make his Canucks' debut tonight vs. Calgary.

This summer's top-2 goaltending free agents will face each other in their respective debuts as Miller takes on Jonas Hiller. Miller had a weird season in 2013-14. He was traded to the Blues after 10 and a half years in Buffalo. Things didn't go as expected in St. Louis and that led to Miller signing with the Canucks this offseason. It is difficult to adjust to a new team mid-season, so with a full camp with Vancouver under his belt, expect Miller to get back to a 2.50 GAA and .915 SV%.

The Vancouver Canucks have signed Ryan Miller to a three-year deal worth $18 million.

Miller, 33, was 25-30-4 with a 2.64 GAA and .918 SV% between the Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues in 2013-14. The Canucks had the look of a team in a rebuilding mode, but with the signing of Miller it looks like they are going to try and push for the playoffs. Miller will undoubtedly be the Canucks starter, but Eddie Lack proved to be a more than capable NHL goalie last season.

The Blues will not be resigning Ryan Miller.

The Blues re-signed Brian Elliott to a three-year deal this morning and will roll with Elliott and Jake Allen in 2014-15. In 19 regular-season games with the Blues, Miller went 10-8-1 with a 2.47 GAA and .903 SV%, and followed it with a 2-4 record, 2.70 GAA and .897 SV% in six Stanley Cup Playoff games. Miller as a rental did not work for the Blues, but he is expected to garner a lot of attention this summer.

Miller finished the season 0-5 with a 3.83 GAA and .856 SV% to finish 10-8-1 with a 2.47 GAA and .903 save percentage since being acquired from the Buffalo Sabres. You don't want to head into the Western Conference first round with your number-1 goalie playing poorly.

Miller stopped 22 of 25 shots in Tuesday's win over the Maple Leafs. Miller has now given up 10 goals in his last three starts and strangely enough has a lower SV% with the Blues (.913) than he did with the Sabres (.923). However, that can largely be attributed to the volume of shots he faced in Buffalo. On Thursday, he takes on a Wild team who are 3-3-4 in their last 10 games.
