Bertuzzi was forced to leave Saturday's overtime loss with an upper-body injury and his status for Sunday's game is up in the air. With Bertuzzi hurt, Givani Smith was recalled from the taxi squad and would replace him if he's unavailable.
Bertuzzi has missed the last seven games with a concussion but will play Saturday in Philadelphia. Bertuzzi could replace Frans Nielsen, who is questionable due to an illness. Bertuzzi has 13 goals and 15 assists (28 points) in 49 games this season.
Bertuzzi suffered an upper-body injury in the Red Wings’ final game before the All-Star break and will not be available for either of their games this weekend. Justin Abdelkader will move to the Red Wings’ top line beside Dylan Larkin while Bertuzzi is out.
Bertuzzi appeared in a career-high 48 games with the Red Wings in 2018, collecting seven goals and 17 assists (24 points) in 48 games. Including the playoffs, Bertuzzi has scored 28 goals with 42 assists (70 points) in his last 83 AHL games. The 23-year-old will be a full-time NHLer in 2019 and could play in the Red Wings’ top-6.
This is an unfortunate injury for Bertuzzi, who was expected to open the season with the Red Wings after dazzling in the AHL playoffs last spring. Bertuzzi could still be a Red Wing when he’s healthy, but this injury opens the door for Martin Frk or Luke Witkowski to open the season as their No.12 forward.
Bertuzzi has been sidelined since November 26th, but recently resumed skating and will return to Grand Rapids to get some playing time. Bertuzzi has six points (3G / 3A) in 10 games with the Griffins this season.
The Red Wings moved Bertuzzi to IR this morning and he told reporters, while sporting a walking boot, that he will miss 3-5 weeks with a high ankle sprain. With Bertuzzi out, the Red Wings recalled Tomas Jurco from Grand Rapids (AHL).

Bertuzzi was a healthy scratch on Sunday, but will play tonight in Buffalo. Bertuzzi has yet to record a point while averaging 9:43 TOI/GM in his first four NHL games of the season. He will replace Drew Miller in the lineup tonight.
Bertuzzi, 21, has picked up three goals and three assists (six points) in 10 games with Grand Rapids, but failed to record a point in three games with the Red Wings. With Darren Helm out and Thomas Vanek not ready until Sunday, Bertuzzi will get another chance on Friday vs. the Capitals.

With Anthony Mantha playing well in his season debut and the Red Wings wanting to get Drew Miller back into the lineup, they have returned Bertuzzi to the AHL, where he’ll get more playing time.
Bertuzzi, 21, was a second round pick in 2013 (58th overall) and is expected to make his NHL debut this week. Bertuzzi had an excellent preseason and training camp and has since added four points (2G / 2A) in nine games with Grand Rapids. He should bring some much needed energy to a Red Wings team that has lost five in a row.
Bertuzzi, 19, is the nephew of former Red Wing Todd Bertuzzi and was the Wings' second round pick (58th overall) in 2013. He is in his fourth season with the Guelph Storm of the OHL and has started the season with one goal and four assists (five points) in six games. He had 34 points (9G / 25A) in 29 games last year.
