Chara suffered an upper-body injury last Thursday, but returned to the ice this morning. He was unable to join his team for full practice, but he did skate by himself which is an encouraging sign for Bruins’ fans and Chara owners. He is progressing towards and appearance in the Bruins’ season opener, but continue to monitor his status throughout the next week.
The Bruins blueline is starting to fall apart before the season even arrives. It was already looking relatively thin after the Dougie Hamilton trade, but then Dennis Seidenberg had back surgery and Chara has gone down. There is no word on the severity of Chara’s injury, but the Bruins can not afford to lose their big defenseman for any period of time.
Chara said that his PCL is permanently torn, but it is something that he won’t need surgery on. His knee is stabilized and healed, but it will be something that he will need to play through for the remainder of his career. It was obvious that Chara was slowed this season and now you know why.
Chara did not participate in Bruins practice on Monday and it was classified as a “maintenance day” but they also listed him as day-to-day. Monitor his status leading up to Wednesday game in Washington.
Chara has missed the last seven weeks with a knee sprain, but will return tonight vs. the Blackhawks. This is a huge boost to the Bruins blueline, who will need all the help they can get vs. a high-powered Blackhawks lineup.
It looks like Chara will return to the lineup tonight after missing exactly seven weeks with a sprained MCL. Chara will play on the top pair with Dougie Hamilton and is expected to be the net-front presence on the top power-play unit. His return is huge for a Bruins team who went 11-7-1 without their captain.
Leading up to tonight, Chara has been practicing on a regular pairing and the power-play, both signs that he was going to return tonight. Chara skated again this morning and was off with the main group, however coach Julien would not confirm that Chara will be in the lineup tonight.
Chara has been skating with the team for the last two weeks, but Tuesday’s practice was the most promising to date. Chara skated with Dougie Hamilton and took part in contact drills, both signs he will be back on Thursday. Monitor his status over the next two days.
Chara, who suffered a PCL tear in his left knee against the New York Islanders back on October 24th, will not join the Boston Bruins on their four-game west coast trip that begins Monday night in Anaheim. Chara, who has been skating on his own over the last few days, will continue to skate in Boston. By the time the Bruins come home from the west coast, the Bruins captain could very well rejoin his teammates as a full participant in practice.
Chara resumed skating on Monday and is back on the ice this morning. He has been sidelined with a PCL tear since October 23rd, but it sounds like he is nearing a return. “Usually, when they start skating, it’s at the earliest at 10 days (and) at the latest two weeks when he’s been out that long,” GM Peter Chiarelli said. The Bruins have gone 9-4-1 in Chara’s absence.
Chara was on the ice in Boston for the first time since tearing his PCL on October 23rd. He was given a 4-6 week timetable and today marks the four-week point, so Chara will likely need to skate for another week before he ramps it up in practice.
The Bruins confirmed this morning that Chara suffered a PCL tear when he went to hit John Tavares last night. They also added that the 4-6 week timeline is a "conservative" timetable and he might be back "a little bit earlier than four weeks" said GM Peter Chiarelli. It will be a tough month without Chara, but this was the best possible news.
Chara suffered left knee ligament damage on Thursday night and will miss at least one month, at which time the Bruins will evaluate Chara's knee and determine if he needs surgery or not. This is a massive loss for the Bruins, who are already without Kevan Miller and who traded Johnny Boychuk in the preseason. Expect Zach Trotman to be recalled and for Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton to take on a larger power-play roles.
The timing of the injury is uncertain. Chara was slashed by the Canadiens' Michael Bournival in Game 3 and Max Pacioretty in Game 7, among other hits. Chara looked out of sorts in game seven specifically, but it is hard to believe that can be largely attributed to a finger injury. Chara had two goals and two assists for the Bruins in the playoffs after scoring 17 goals with 23 assists and a plus-25 mark in the regular season.
Claude Julien’s bunch will have to find a way to make up for the 25:57 average ice time that Chara logs every night. The B’s recently recalled David Warsofsky from Providence, and he’ll be back in the lineup for the next two games. He’s obviously not being called upon to replace Chara, as every player will need to chip in and pick up his game.
Chara missed Sunday's game against the Sens but will return to the lineup tonight vs. the Islanders. Chara has recorded nine goals and 17 points in 38 games.
There is no word whether he will dress tonight vs. the Islanders, but his presence at the morning skate is a positive sign. Monitor his status following the morning skate.
Chara is expected to be replaced by Zach Trotman tonight vs. the Senators. Monitor his status prior to Tuesday's contest.
