Chatfield (lower-body) skated on Wednesday and is considered day-to-day ahead of Game 2.

Chatfield has missed the last two games with a lower-body injury, but skated on Wednesday and head coach Rod Brind'Amour said that "he was better. I'd put him at day-to-day now, so that's a good sign." Expect Chatfield to replace Scott Morrow in the lineup if he's able to play in Game 2.

Chatfield has been dealing with a lower-body injury since Game 4 vs. the Capitals and is questionable to play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. He was not on the ice for Monday's practice, and Scott Morrow skated in his spot, so look for Morrow to dress if Chatfield is unavailable.

Rod Brind'Amour announced Saturday that he was hopeful the Hurricanes would have defensemen Jalen Chatfield back for the start of their upcoming Eastern Conference Final. The 29-year-old stay-at-home defenseman missed Game 5 of the Hurricanes' previous series vs. Washington with an undisclosed injury after posting a goal and a +6 plus/minus through nine games in the playoffs so far.

Nikishin will slot in for Jalen Chatfield, who is out with an undisclosed injury. Nikishin was Carolina's third-round pick, 69th overall, in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The 23-year-old Nikishin has spent the previous few seasons in the KHL. He scored 46 points (17G / 29A) in 61 games with St. Peterburgh SKA (KHL) this season.

Ehlers (lower-body) is on the ice for warmups and is expected to play in Game 6.

Ehlers has been out since April 12th with a lower-body injury he suffered in a collision with a referee in Chicago. His return comes at a perfect time because the Jets are missing Mark Scheifele due to an undisclosed injury he suffered in Game 5. Before getting hurt, Ehlers was having one of the best seasons of his career, scoring 24 goals with 39 assists (63 points) in 69 games.

Ehlers has only played twice in the last fours weeks but will make his 2024-25 playoff debut on Friday in Game 6. The Jets lead their series 3-2 over the St. Louis Blues and have been cautious with Ehler's return to the lineup after reaggravating an injury after attempting to return late in the season. The 29-year-old Ehlers scored 63 points (24G / 39A) in 63 games this season.

Carolina has signed Taylor Hall to a three-year, $9.501 million contract extension ($3.167 million AAV).

The Hurricanes acquired Hall in a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks midseason and was a effective player in a secondary role with the club. The 33-year-old Hall scored 18 points (9G / 9A) in 31 games with the Hurricanes. He had 28 points (11G / 17A) in 56 games with the Blackhawks over the previous two seasons. The former Hart trophy winner has been a solid offensive contributor through one round of the 2024-25 playoffs as well, scoring three points (1G / 2A) in five games.

Taylor Hall
Kochetkov will start Game 5 vs. New Jersey on Tuesday.

Frederik Andersen exited Game 4 due to an undisclosed injury and will be sidelined for Game 5, allowing Kochetkov to tend the twine. Kochetkov was solid in relief in Game 4, saving 14 of 15 shots (.933 SV%) in the 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils. His last start was on April 16th when he allowed three goals on 21 shots (.857 SV%) in a 4-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The 25-year-old goalie has seven career playoff appearances (1-4), posting a 3.73 GAA and .870 SV%. The Hurricanes enter Game 5 on Tuesday as sizeable -262 home favorites against the Devils.
