It's a surprise start for Martin after Blue Jackets head coach Pascal Vincent confirmed earlier in the day that Elvis Merzlikins would be in goal, but the Blue Jackets starter must still be feeling the effects of the illness that caused him to miss Monday's game against the Red Wings. Martin will make his third appearance of the season and will be hoping to build on a lackluster start to the campaign. The 28-year-old has allowed six goals on just 45 shots, good enough for a measly .867 SV% and a 4.54 GAA.

Kotchetkov was 1-0-0 with a .912 SV% and a 2.79 GAA with Syracuse (AHL) but has been recalled Wednesday to Carolina. The 24-year-old's promotion comes the night after Frederik Andersen left Carolina's game in the first period due to an injury. Kotchetkov returns to the big leagues, where he has a 15-7-5 record, a .908 SV% and a 2.43 GAA in 27 career NHL games played.

Despite getting the victory in each of his first two starts of the season, Andersen would have been hoping for a better start to the year following a relatively down season in 2022-23 which saw him post a .903 SV% across 34 appearances, but his performance thus far has left plenty to be desired. His perfect 2-0-0 record masks the fact that he’s surrendered eight goals on just 60 shots, good enough for a measly .867 SV% and a 3.84 GAA. The Hurricanes have one of the more capable backups in the league in Antti Raanta, and with Pyotr Kochetkov also waiting in the wings in Syracuse (AHL), Andersen will need to turn his game around fast if he wants to maintain his status as Carolina’s undisputed number one.

Aho was a late scratch to Tuesday's game thanks to the surprise upper-body injury, with the team announcing his absence just 30 minutes before puck drop. The driving force behind Carolina's offense, Aho has enjoyed a nice start to the season, picking up two goals and one assist with eight shots on goal through the first three games of the season. Teuvo Teravainen will attempt to fill the void left by Aho as he'll serve as the team's first line centre to begin Tuesday's game against the Sharks.

Carrier's status for Tuesday night's tilt against the Dallas Stars remains uncertain as he continues to work his way back from an upper-body injury. Carrier has sat out the last two contests for the Golden Knights and has zero points, three shots, one hit, and two penalty minutes in his only game this season.

Jost is poised to make his season debut on Tuesday against the Lightning as Victor Olofsson is expected to be a healthy scratch. In 71 games between the Sabres and Minnesota Wild, Jost scored 25 points (7G / 18A) last season. He is projected to center the fourth line between Zemgus Girgenson and Kyle Okposo.

Hall was originally expected to be out week-to-week with a shoulder injury but was only forced to miss one game as he will return to the Blackhawks' lineup Monday vs. Toronto. Hall was acquired in the offseason for a pair of defensemaen and has an assist, four SOG, and a +1 plus/minus through two games so far with Chicago this season. He will return to his regular role alongside Connor Bedard on Chicago's top line and power play unit.

Roslovic was a late scratch in the Blue Jackets second game of the season but is expected to return to the lineup on Monday night against the Red Wings. Roslovic will likely find himself back on the fourth line with Sean Kuraly and Emil Bemstrom. He had zero shots and a -1 plus/minus rating in 9:31 time-on-ice in his only game this season.

With Elvis Merzlinkins currently battling a stomach bug, Martin will get his first start as a member of the Blue Jackets. Martin was claimed off of waivers from the Vancouver Canucks, where he recorded a 3.99 GAA and .871 SV% in 29 games last season (11-15-1). He already appeared in net for the Blue Jackets once in relief this season, allowing two goals on 17 shots in 20 minutes of action. Martin and the Blue Jackets are +118 home underdogs tonight against a Detroit Red Wings team that has scored nine goals in their first two games (1-1-0).

Hall missed one game with a shoulder injury that he suffered last Wednesday in Boston. He was initially considered week-to-week, so returning after one game is huge new for the Blackhawks. Hall had one assist and four shots on goal in two games to start the season.

Andersen allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Hurricanes' win over the Senators on Wednesday. It was a strong start to the season for Andersen, who figures to have a good chance at picking up a 'W' whenever he gets the nod. Tonight he'll start in Los Angeles--he struggled against the Pacific Division last year, going 3-4-0 with a 3.03 GAA and .861 SV%.

Hall was caught by a blindside hit from Brandon Carlo during Wednesday's loss in Boston. Hall picked up an assist on Connor Bedard's first goal of the season before leaving the game. Andreas Athansiou was Hall's primary replacement on Bedard's wing, but head coach Luke Richardson said that Lukas Reichel is also a candidate to see some time there.

Andersen battled injuries last season, as he has for several seasons now, allowing him to suit up in only 34 games (21-11-1) where he posted a 2.48 GAA and .903 SV%. The Carolina Hurricanes opted to re-sign him and Antti Raanta in the offseason, indicating that there will probably be a similar goalie rotation in the Hurricane crease this season. In two appearances this preseason (1-0-0), Andersen posted a sparkling 1.30 GAA and .946 SV%. There are several high-caliber offensive threats on the Ottawa Senators roster but the defensive structure of Rod Brind'Amour and the Hurricanes should prove challenging for any team to penetrate. As a team last season, the Hurricanes allowed an average of only 2.56 goals per game, good for second in the NHL.

Carrier left Vegas' opening game vs. Seattle after just 5:09 TOI due to an undisclosed injury and will not travel with the Golden Knights on their upcoming road trip to San Jose. The 28-year-old is considered out indefinitely which is a big loss for Vegas after he had 16 goals, nine assists, 118 SOG, 30 PIMs and a +15 plus/minus through 56 games in 2022-23.
