Kylington missed training camp and still has yet to join the Flames due to a personal matter. There's no word on when he's expected to rejoin the team, so consider him out indefinitely and look for Nicolas Meloche to serve as the Flames' No.6 defenseman in his absence.

de Haan was in training camp on a PTO but earned a one-year deal to help strengthen the left side of the Hurricanes' blueline. de Haan will likely battle with Ethan Bear for playing time but seems to be the front-runner to land the 3LD spot to open the season. de Haan had four goals and four assists (eight points) in 69 games with the Blackhawks last season.

Landeskog is dealing with an injury from last season and will not skate "anytime soon," according to head coach Jared Bednar. Landeskog will miss the start of the season, but it's unclear how long he will be sidelined.

McKinnon had been one of the most underpaid players in the NHL for years but will have the highest AAV when the 2024 season starts at $12.6. McKinnon missed 17 games last season but was on pace for 111 points (40G / 71A) over 82 games. He also led the playoffs in goals (13) and won his first Stanley Cup. Overall, 2022 was a great year for Nathan MacKinnon.
