Edmonton Oilers News

Skinner will start Tuesday vs. the Capitals.

The Oilers' four-game winning streak snapped in their most recent outing when Skinner allowed three goals on 27 shots (.889 SV%) in a 3-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. The 26-year-old Skinner will likely return to the crease on Tuesday against the Washington Capitals, looking to build on his 2.70 GAA and .901 SV% through 31 games this season (18-10-3). The Oilers are without Connor McDavid (suspension) and enter Tuesday's contest as -147 home favorites against a red-hot Washington Capitals team outscoring their opposition 12-2 in their last four games (4-0-0).

Kapanen is expected to draw back into Edmonton's lineup on Tuesday vs. Washington.

Kapanen has not played the previous two games but will re-enter the lineup as Connor McDavid serves the first game of his three-game suspension. The 28-year-old Kapanen is averaging 11:46 time-on-ice and has eight points (5G / 3A) in 34 games this season.

McDavid has been suspended three games for cross-checking Conor Garland.

McDavid will miss out on the next three games after connecting with a high cross-check on Conor Garland during the scrum at the end of the Canucks and Oilers game on Saturday. It's the second time McDavid has been suspended in his career, after he received a two-game suspension for a high hit on Nick Leddy back in 2019. He will be eligible to return for Edmonton's game against the Kraken on January 27th.

Ryan has cleared waivers and has been assigned to Bakersfield (AHL).

Ryan has played 33 games this season, averaging 9:25 time-on-ice primarily in a fourth-line role, and has five points (1G / 4A). The 38-year-old forward's has not played in the AHL since a nine-game stint with the Charlotte Checkers in the 2016-17 season when he scored 13 points (5G / 8A).

Klingberg will be "at least a week" before he plays games for the Oilers.

Klingberg hasn't played since undergoing hip surgery over a year ago after a brief 14-game stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he scored five points (0G / 5A). The 32-year-old Klingberg isn't far removed from being one of the league's elite powerplay quarterbacks. He scored a career-high 67 points (8G / 59A) in 82 games with the Dallas Stars in the 2017-18 season. However, his production has dipped significantly in recent years, tallying only 85 points (16G / 69A) and a -60 plus/minus in his 155 most recent games. Given Evan Bouchard's dominance on Edmonton's top powerplay unit, it's unlikely that Klingberg will find himself in that position. Yet, he could still see an uptick in production considering the star power of his surrounding cast.

Frederic is out on Monday vs. San Jose due to illness.

Frederic will not play on Monday against the San Jose Sharks due to an illness. The 26-year-old forward is averaging 14:10 time-on-ice and has 14 points (7G / 7A) in 47 games this season. Oliver Wahlstrom will draw into the lineup as Frederic's replacement.

Skinner will start in Colorado on Thursday.

Skinner will get the start for the tail-end of Edmonton's back-to-back after Calvin Pickard got the nod on Wednesday. Skinner was fantastic in his last start, stopping all 30 shots he faced in a 1-0 shutout victory over the Kings on Monday. The 26-year-old netminder owns a 17-9-3 record and a .902 SV% on the season. The Oilers enter action on Thursday at +100 on the money line.
