Edmonton Oilers News

Stuart Skinner was in the starter's crease Friday at Edmonton's morning skate.

Skinner will likely start for the seventh straight game and look for his sixth straight victory on Friday. Skinner has elevated his game since the Oilers changed coaches last month, highlighted by a tremendous .943 SV% during his season-best five-game winning streak, allowing only eight total goals over that stretch. The Oilers are considerable -187 home favourites against a Minnesota Wild team that has played well lately but was shut out 2-0 last night against the Vancouver Canucks.

Travis Dermott (hand) will be a game-time decision Thursday vs. Philadelphia.

Dermott joins Sean Durzi (lower-body) as game-time decisions for the Coyotes' blue line ahead of their Thursday night matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers. Dermott has not played since November 7th, when he recorded one assist and fired three shots on goal in a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken.

Skinner will start against the Hurricanes on Wednesday.

Skinner will make his sixth straight start as he goes for his fifth consecutive win Wednesday as he takes on Carolina at home. The 25-year-old has improved his play of late but still has some ugly season totals with his 8-7-1 record, 3.16 GAA and .881 SV%. He will host the Carolina Hurricanes, who have lost two of their last three games but lead the NHL in shots on goal per game (34.5).

John Klinberg (hip surgery) will undergo season ending hip surgery at the end of the month.

Klingberg was signed to a one-year, $4.125 million contract in the offseason but will have his 2023-24 season cut short due to the hip surgery he will undergo at the end of the month. It is disappointing news for the 31-year-old veteran, whose short Maple Leafs tenure may be over after just 14 games played, five assists, 14 SOG, eight PIMs and a -7 plus/minus.

Stuart Skinner will start Thursday vs. Winnipeg.

Skinner will look for his fourth straight victory as he prepares to be the starting goalie for the Oilers on Thursday. His current stretch marks his second three-winning streak this season, and he has played significantly better as a whole, dating back to the firing of Jay Woodcroft and Jack Campbell being reassigned to the AHL. In his last three games, Skinner has saved 69 of 75 shots (.920 SV%). The Oilers are -114 road favourites against a Winnipeg Jets team that was shutout 2-0 by the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

Zach Hyman (illness) will return to Edmonton's lineup Thursday vs. Winnipeg.

Hyman did not play on Tuesday due to illness. Evander Kane replaced him on the top powerplay unit, but Hyman will retake his rightful spot there when he returns to action on Thursday. Hyman has been tremendous lately, recording multi-point efforts in three consecutive games, totalling seven points (4G / 3A) and an outrageous 16 shots on goal.

Zach Hyman
Corey Perry has cleared waivers and his contract is terminated "effective immediately".

Perry's saga as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks is officially over after an unceremonious contract termination. In a statement released by the team, Perry engaged in "unacceptable conduct" that violated his contract and team standards. Perry was amid a somewhat resurgent start to the season, scoring nine points (4G / 5A) in 16 games.

Corey Perry
Hyman (illness) will not play against the Golden Knights on Tuesday.

Hyman was a late scratch for Tuesday's game with Edmonton announcing his absence just 30 minutes before puck drop. It's a big loss for the Oilers, as Hyman has been particularly hot of late, racking up four goals and three assists in his last three games. His first chance to return to the lineup will be on Thursday in Winnipeg.

Chicago has placed Corey Perry on unconditional waivers and plan to terminate his contract.

After a somewhat resurgent start to the season, scoring nine points (4G / 5A) in 16 games, Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers by the Blackhawks to terminate his contract. In a statement released by the team, Perry engaged in "unacceptable conduct" that violated his contract and team standards. Perry was a healthy scratch in the last three games for the Blackhawks as this situation was unfolding.

Corey Perry
Jake Wallman (illness) is expected to be ready to go Wednesday vs. the New York Rangers.

Walman was unavailable due to an illness in the last two games for the Red Wings but will likely return to the lineup on Wednesday against the New York Rangers. Walman has eight points (4G/ 4A), 34 shots on goal, and a +8 plus/minus rating through 18 games this season.

Jake Walman
Travis Dermott (upper body) is expected to return to the Coyotes' lineup Tuesday vs. Tampa Bay.

Dermott, who has not played since November 7th, is expected to make his return to the Coyotes lineup and will likely skate alongside Mathew Dumba on the team's third defensive pair. In 10 games this season, Dermott averaged 17:29 time-on-ice and had one point (0G / 1A).

Travis Dermott
Stuart Skinner will start Tuesday vs. Vegas.

Skinner has remained inconsistent since the demotion of Jack Campbell but has had significantly more good than bad in recent games, including saving 46 of 48 shots (.958 SV%) over his last two games (2-0-0). Skinner and the Oilers are -145 home favourites against a Vegas Golden Knights team that has struggled lately and played last night, losing 2-1 in overtime to the Calgary Flames. Both teams are trending in opposite directions as the Golden Knights have lost four of their last five (1-2-2) while the Oilers have won two straight, outscoring their opposition by a whopping 13-2 margin.

Stuart Skinner
Perry will remain away from the team for the "foreseeable future."

The Blackhawks have yet to say why Perry isn't with the team but that it was a team decision, not Perry's decision. The 38-year-old signed a one-year, $4 million contract in the offseason and had been enjoying a decent start to the season with four goals, five assists, 26 SOG, 12 PIMs and a -5 plus/minus in 16 games played.
