Schmidt will be a healthy scratch for Florida's season opener on Tuesday.

Schmidt signed with the Panthers in the offseason but will begin his tenure with his new club as a healthy scratch in their season opener. Schmidt had 14 points (2G / 12A) in 63 games while also racking up 66 hits and 76 blocked shots in the 2023-24 season. Uvis Balinskis will draw in on the third defensive pair for the Panthers.

Samoskevich (upper-body) is expected to make his pre-season debut on Saturday.

Samoskevich has been dealing with an upper-body injury since the beginning of training camp but was cleared to join practice on Wednesday. Head coach Paul Maurice said he expects Samoskevich to be full contact by Friday and make his pre-season debut on Saturday. If he's healthy, Samoskevich is expected to open the season on the Panthers' roster and skate on the third line next to Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen.

Samoskevich has been dealing with an upper-body injury throughout training camp but was a limited participant on Tuesday. Samoskevich was penciled in to start the season on the Panthers' third line at the start of the preseason but it's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of the regular season until he's cleared for contact.

Florida has officially had its first preseason injury causality after it was announced Tuesday that Tomas Nosek will be out week-to-week after suffering an upper-body injury in Nashville on Sunday. It is an unfortunate start to the 32-year-old's time in Florida after signing a one-year, $775,000 contract in the offseason. In 36 games with New Jersey in 2023-24, he had two goals, six points, 38 SOG and a -11 plus/minus.

The Panthers have signed Adam Boqvist to a two-year, two-way contract.

Boqvist was the No.8 overall pick in 2018 and was a key part of the return for Seth Jones in 2021. In three seasons with the Blue Jackets, Boqvist saw his games played decline in each season, most recently posting just 10 points (1G / 9A) in 35 games. With the Panthers, expect him to start in the AHL but be one of the first defensemen called upon when they need reinforcements.

The Panthers signed Jaycob Megna to a one-year, two-way contract.

Megna started the 2023-24 season with the Seattle Kraken organization but was claimed off waivers by the Blackhawks in January. He went on to play 44 games with Chicago, tallying two assists, 60 hits and 87 blocked shots while logging 17:31 ATOI. With Florida, look for him to start the 2024-25 season in the AHL.

The Panthers signed Anton Lundell to a six-year extension worth $30.0 million ($5.0M AAV).

Lundell was a massive piece in Florida's first-ever Stanley Cup victory with 17 points (3G/14A) in 24 playoff games and has earned himself a six-year extension worth $30.0 million ($5.0M AAV). The 22-year-old was Florida's 2020 1st round pick (12th overall) and has 112 points (43G/69A) in 216 career games played in three seasons.

Florida has signed Chris Driedger to a one-year, $795,000 contract.

Driedger had two outstanding seasons with the Panthers in 2020 and 2021 before being claimed by Seattle in the expansion draft. While with the Panthers, he was 21-8-4 with a 2.07 GAA and .931 SV% across two seasons. However, he had a 2.93 GAA and .900 SV% in 29 games (26 starts) with the Kraken and played in just two NHL games during the 2024 season. With Anthony Stoalrz now in Toronto, Driedger will battle with Spencer Knight for the role of Sergei Bobrovsky's backup in 2025.

Chicago has signed Mackenzie Entwistle to a one-year, two-way contract.

Entwistle will return to Chicago for a fifth season after signing a one-year, two-way contract extension with the Blackhawks on Tuesday. The 24-year-old has yet to surpass 12+ points in any of his four NHL seasons but had five goals, 11 points, 47 PIMs and a -29 plus/minus in 67 games played in 2023-24.

Florida continues to fill out its bottom six after signing Jesper Boqvist to a one-year deal on Monday. The 25-year-old has five years of NHL experience under his belt but struggled to produce in his first season in Boston in 2023-24 with just six goals and 14 points in 47 games played.

The Panthers have signed A.J. Greer to a two-year contract worth $1.7 million ($850K AAV).

Florida added some grit on Monday as it signed A.J. Greer to a two-year contract worth $1.7 million ($850K AAV). The 27-year-old left-winger tied his career high in points (12) in 2023-24 with Calgary, picking up six goals, 12 points, and 35 PIMs in 59 games played.

The reigning Stanley Cup Champions have added to their defensive depth on Monday as they added winger Tomas Nosek to a one-year deal worth $775,000. The 31-year-old veteran is entering his 10th NHL season with his fifth team and had two goals and six points in 36 games with New Jersey in 2023-24.

The Panthers have signed Dmitry Kulikov to a four-year deal worth $4.6 million ($1.15M AAV).

Fresh off of helping Florida win its first Stanley Cup, 33-year-old Dmitry Kulikov has signed a four-year contract extension worth $4.6 million ($1.15M AAV). The veteran defensemen just completed his 15th NHL season and had a goal, 20 points, 63 PIMs and a +15 plus/minus in 76 games played.

The Panthers re-signed Sam Reinhart to an eight year deal worth $69.0 million ($8.625M AAV).

Reinhart absolutely exploded in his contract year, scoring 57 goals, 24 more than his previous career high. He also added 37 assists, to give him 94 points, 12 more than his previous career high. Reinhart was also very strong during the Panthers run to the Stanley Cup, posting 16 points (10G / 6A) in 24 games and scored the Stanley Cup winning goal. Look for him to remain on a line with Aleksander Barkov for the foreseeable future.

The Panthers have signed Rasmus Asplund to a one-year, two-way deal.

Asplund spent the entire 2023-24 season in the AHL, where he led the team in assists (35) and was second in points (44) in 67 games. Asplund should once again be a fringe NHLer for the Panthers and one of the first depth call-ups if he doesn't make the team out of training camp.

The Jets have placed Nate Schmidt on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout.

Schmidt is in the final season of a six-year, $35.7 million contract that he signed with Vegas back in 2018 and has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout on Sunday. The 32-year-old is in his 12th NHL season and is set to be owed $5,950,000 in 2024-25. In 63 games played with Winnipeg in 2023-24, he had two goals, 14 points, 75 SOG and a +10 plus/minus.

The Blue Jackets have placed Adam Boqvist on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout.

Boqvist was expected to earn $2.6 million in 2024-25 but has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purposes of buyout on Sunday by Columbus. The 23-year-old defender was drafted by Chicago back in the 1st round (8th overall) of the 2018 Draft and was a key piece in the trade which sent Seth Jones to the Blackhawks. Boqvist appeared in 35 games with the Blue Jackets in 2023-24 and had one goal, 10 points, 45 SOG and a -8 plus/minus.

Florida has resigned Matt Kiersted to a one-year, two-way contract extension.

Kiersted spent the 2023-24 season with Charlotte (AHL) and has earned himself a one-year, two-way contract extension to remain with Florida next season. The 26-year-old defensemen will provide the Panthers with some depth after putting up four goals and 15 points in 57 games with Charlotte last season.
