The Avalanche have signed Jonathan Bernier to a one-year deal worth $2.7M.

After three tough years in Toronto, Bernier bounced back as John Gibson’s backup in Anaheim last season. Bernier was 21-7-4 with a 2.51 GAA and .915 SV% in 38 games with the Ducks and will serve as the oft-injured Semyon Varlamov’s backup this season.

The Senators select Shane Bowers with the 28th overall pick.

Bowers won’t blow you away with his offensive numbers like others in this draft class, but plays an excellent two-way game. Bowers had 22 goals and 29 assists (51 points) in 60 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL) this season and looks like a low-risk draft pick.

The Devils select Nico Hischier with the No.1 pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Hischier rose up prospect rankings in 2017 by dazzling in the QMJHL. Hischier has a very high skill level and competes on every shift. After coming over from Switzerland, Hischier posted 38 goals and 48 assists (86 assists) in just 57 games with the Halifax Mooseheads.

The Ducks will stay with the hot-hand tonight as Bernier looks for his 11th win of the month and 20th win of the season.
