The Hurricanes were busy on trade deadline day to they had to make some room and they did so by moving Dougie Hamilton to LTIR. To help make up for the loss of Hamilton and most recently Brett Pesce, the Hurricanes used the cap space to acquired Brady Skjei and Sami Vatanen.
Markstrom was hurt in the Boston game on Saturday and underwent an MRI on Monday morning. He'll return to Vancouver to be re-evaluated and the Canucks will likely return a more detailed timetable after that. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour met with the media on Monday and told reporters that none of their recent injuries are "short term." With Pesce set to miss some time, the Hurricanes could be in the market for a defenseman before today's trade deadline.
Haula performed admirably in his third-line role for the Hurricanes after being acquired from Vegas in the off-season. Injuries limited him to just 41 games in a Carolina uniform, but he was able to register 12 goals and 10 assists while playing less than 16 minutes a night. He should play more of a top-six role now with the Panthers. Haula is set to become an unrestricted free-agent on July 1.

Head coach Rod Brind'Amour did not have a good update on the 25-year-old defenseman, leaving them without two of their top-4 defenseman for an extended period of time. With the trade deadline on Monday, this injury could change how the Hurricanes operate in the next 24 hours.
