Barzal was a surprise late scratch on Friday but was back on the ice for Monday's practice and is expected to play Tuesday. Barzal is on a five-game point streak, registering eight points (6G / 2A).



Sorokin stopped 24 of 26 shots (.923 SV%) for his fourth win of the season as he beat Vancouver in his previous start. The 27-year-old has been fantastic this season, leading the Islanders with his .926 SV%, 2.29 GAA and 14-12-1 record. He will face the Edmonton Oilers, who have lost their last two games but are third in the NHL in goals per game (3.54).

Thompson failed to pick up a point in limited minutes across two games for the Devils and will head back to the Utica Comets (AHL) Thursday. Prior to his time in New Jersey, he had six goals, 13 points, six PIMS and a -6 plus/minus through 22 games with Utica.

Clutterbuck missed the Islanders' previous eight games due to an upper-body injury but has been activated off the injured reserve and is expected to play Thursday vs. Edmonton. The 35-year-old had just recently become the all-time hits leader in the NHL and has three goals, five points, 14 PIMs and a +4 plus/minus in 26 games prior to the injury.

Schnieder did not see any action with the Islanders in his call-up and will head back to Bridgeport (AHL) where he was 10-3-2 prior to his promotion with a 2.51 GAA and .921 SV%.


Holmstrom was involved in a knee-on-knee collision with Calgary's Sam Bennett a few games back and is now considered day-to-day as he deals with a leg injury but will be placed on the injured reserve. The 2019 1st-round pick (23rd overall) has a goal, an assist, eight SOG and one GWG in his 14 games played this season.



Clutterbuck missed the Islanders' previous three games due to an upper-body injury but is travelling with the team and is likely to play in the upcoming games. Varlamov stopped 35 of 37 shots before leaving Saturday's game in Vegas with a lower-body injury and will head to the injured reserve. The Islanders recalled Cory Schneider from the AHL and he is expected to stay with the team until Varlamov is nursed back to full health.

Palmieri has played one game since Nov.21st due to an upper-body injury that has reaggravated itself and has been placed on the injured reserve after playing 10:46 in a game vs. Arizona Friday. The 31-year-old veteran winger has six goals, nine points and 39 SOG through 21 games prior to hitting the shelf again due to injury.

Thompson had six goals, seven assists, six PIMs and a -6 plus/minus through 22 games with Utica (AHL) but has been recalled for the first time this season Wednesday. Thompson will slot right into New Jersey's lineup for their game vs. Boston, where he will be looking to pick up his second career point as he has one assist in nine previous NHL games.
