Kris Letang remains day-to-day and will not play Wednesday vs. Ottawa (illness).

Letang has not played since Dec. 28th due to an illness and will not play Wednesday as Pittsburgh takes on the Ottawa Senators. The 35-year-old star defenseman has two goals, 14 assists, 57 SOG and a -12 plus/minus through 29 games prior to his latest absence.

Mac Hollowell underwent surgery for a fractured kneecap and will be out for a minimum of 12 weeks.

Hollowell has not played since Dec. 3rd due to a fractured kneecap and has now undergone surgery for the injury which is expected to keep him out of the lineup for a minimum of 12 weeks. The 24-year-old had two assists, four SOG and a +3 plus/minus through six games prior to the injury.

Tristan Jarry has been placed on the injured reserve retroactive to January 2nd (undisclosed).

Jarry left the Winter Classic last Monday just 15:30 into the first period with an undisclosed injury and has been placed on the injured reserve retroactive to January 2nd. The 27-year-old was having a strong season, with his 15-5-4 record, 2.75 GAA and .918 SV% prior to the injury and will hope to be back sooner rather than later.

Joona Koppanen has been recalled from Providence (AHL) and will make his NHL debut Thursday.

Koppanen had five goals, 19 points, 22 PIMs and a +10 plus/minus rating through 34 games this season with the Providence Bruins (AHL) and earned his first career NHL call-up Wednesday. The 24-year-old has yet to experience any NHL action throughout his career so when cracks the Bruins' lineup Thursday, he will be making his long-awaited debut.

Tristan Jarry is being evaluated back in Pittsburgh and likely will not be available Thursday (undisclosed).

Jarry left the Winter Classic Monday 15:30 into the first period with an undisclosed injury and is likely unavailable Thursday as he heads back to Pittsburgh to be re-evaluated for his injury. The 27-year-old was having a strong season, with his 15-5-4 record, 2.75 GAA and .918 SV%.

Alex Nedeljkovic has been assigned to Grand Rapids (AHL) on a conditioning loan.

2022-23 has been a nightmare for Nedeljkovic, who has a 2-4-2 record, 4.09 GAA and .880 SV%. He will head back to Grand Rapids (AHL) in hope of refinding his game similar to the .932 SV% he posted in 23 games in 2020-21 which had many people thinking he was the Red Wings' goalie of the future.

Letang will step away from the Penguins due to the passing of his father Monday. It has been a tough season for the 35-year-old who just returned to Pittsburgh's lineup after dealing with his second career stroke. He had two goals, 14 assists, 57 SOG and was -12 through 29 games prior to him stepping aside.

Tristan Jarry will start for the Penguins in the Winter Classic.

Jarry allowed three goals on 27 shots (.889 SV%) for his third straight loss as New Jersey downed him in his previous start. The 27-year-old has been exceptional this season, with his 15-5-4, 2.78 GAA and .917 SV%. He will face the league-leading Boston Bruins, who have lost two of their last three games after a 4-3 overtime loss to Buffalo in their last game.

Letang has two goals, 14 assists, 12 PIMs, 57 shots and a -12 plus/minus through 29 games this season but will miss Friday's game due to a lower-body injury. It is the second time Letang has been forced to miss time in 2022-23, after a scary situation with a stroke earlier in the year.

Jarry allowed five goals on 42 shots (.881 SV%) for his second straight loss as he was defeated by the New York Islanders in his last start. The 27-year-old has been solid all season, with a 15-4-4 record, 2.77 GAA and .918 SV%. He will face the New Jersey Devils, who are in a bit of a downfall, losing eight of their last nine games.

Emil Bemstrom will return to the Blue Jackets lineup Thursday vs. the Islanders.

Bemstrom was recalled from Cleveland (AHL) after an impressive 14 goals and 17 assists in 21 games with the Monsters and will return to the Blue Jackets lineup Thursday vs. the New York Islanders. Bemstrom will draw into the first line with Johnny Gaudreau and Jack Roslovic and will be hoping to add to the two goals and two assists he had in seven games earlier in the season.

Jarry allowed four goals on 26 shots (.889 SV%) to snap a seven-game winning streak as he took the loss to Carolina his last time out. Jarry has been one of the league's top netminders yet again in 2022-23, with his 15-3-4 record, 2.67 GAA and .920 SV%. He will likely find himself in a low-scoring battle as he takes on the New York Islanders, who are eighth in the NHL in goals against per game (2.74).
