Charlie Lindgren is the expected starter after being the first goalie off the ice at Monday's morning skate

Lindgren's last start came five games ago as he lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 in a 36-save (.923 SV%) losing effort. He will man the crease for a Capitals squad that has won three of their last four outings. They take on the surging New Jersey Devils, who have won three straight games while allowing an average of 1.33 GA during the wins.

Thompson was the first goalie off of the ice at the Golden Knights morning skate.

Thompson will draw his second start in as many games after beating the LA Kings in the Golden Knights season opener 4-3. Thompson will look to build off his solid performance as he stopped 27 of 30 shots (.900%) on way to the 11th win of his career.

Lindgren will likely start Thursday in Toronto.

It is little surprise that Montreal's backup goalie will take the crease after Jake Allen led the Canadiens to a 4-3 victory over the Maple Leafs the night prior. The 28-year-old Lindgren returns to Montreal after 24 career games between 2015-2020 which saw him collect 10 wins on 24 starts while producing a .907 SV%. Lindgren enjoyed success in a small sample size in 2021-22, posting a .958 SV% while winning five of five starts as a member of St.Louis.

Thompson will start the Golden Knights' season opener in Los Angeles.

The 25-year-old rookie will get the first start of the Golden Knights 2022-23 season as he takes the crease against the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday. Thompson enjoyed a successful first taste of the NHL in 2021-22 collecting 10 wins, alongside a 2.68 GAA and a .914 SV% in 19 games played with the Golden Knights.

Chychrun (ankle/wrist) has no timeline for his return to the ice.

Chychrun had to have bone spurs removed from his ankle this summer, in addition to wrist surgery. When he met with reporters on Thursday, he said there's no timeline for him to return to the ice, so it seems as if he's in danger of missing the start of the 2022-23 season.

The Capitals have signed Dylan Strome to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million.

With Nicklas Backstrom recently undergoing hip surgery and expected to miss an extended period of time, the Capitals sign Strome to a one-year deal, presumably to be their No.2 centre in 2022-23. Strome excelled while playing up in the Blackhawks lineup last season but found himself near the bottom of the depth chart often as well. If he sticks on the second line with players like Anthony Mantha and T.J Oshie, Strome should be able to replicate the 22 goals and 26 assists (48 points) we saw from him a season ago.
