Washington Capitals News

Lindgren is expected to start vs. Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Lindgren has been significantly outplayed by counterpart Logan Thompson early in the 2025-26 season, but will likely start for the fifth time on Thursday on the tail end of a back-to-back. The 31-year-old Lindgren has a 1-2-1 record, posting a 3.46 GAA and .880 SV% in four games. He recorded an impressive 35-save shutout in his first game of the season, but has allowed four goals on 82 shots (.829 SV%) in three games since (0-2-1).

Thompson will start vs. St. Louis on Wednesday.

Despite only allowing three goals combined in his last two outings, saving 38 of 41 shots (.927 SV%), Thompson has lost two straight and hopes to return to the win column on Wednesday against the St. Louis Blues. The 28-year-old Thompson has been excellent between the pipes for the Capitals early in 2025-26, posting an outstanding 1.51 GAA and .935 SV% in eight games (5-3-0). The Capitals enter Wednesday's contest as -144 home favorites against a Blues team that has a disappointing 4-7-2 record.

Dubois (lower-body) will be out for an "extended period of time".

Dubois missed five games earlier this season due to a lower-body injury. He returned and suited up for three games before exiting the third contest due to a lower-body injury, and will not be sidelined indefinitely. It's unclear if the two injuries are related. The 27-year-old Dubois had a career-high 66 points (20G / 46A) in 82 games in 2024-25, but has started this season with zero points in six games.

Pierre-Luc Dubois
Dubois suffered a lower-body injury in Friday's game against the Islanders and will not return.

Dubois suffered the injury toward the end of the first period of Friday's game and was unable to return. It's unfortunate timing for the Capitals, who are already without centre Dylan Strome (lower-body). We should get an update on Dubois' status ahead of Washington's game in Buffalo on Saturday.

Pierre-Luc Dubois
Strome (lower-body) will not play against the Islanders on Friday.

Strome did not play in Washington's most recent game, a 1-0 loss on Tuesday to the Dallas Stars, but was a game-time decision for Friday's game against the New York Islanders. Strome is off to another hot start this season, with 10 points (2G / 8A) in nine games.

Dylan Strome
Washington has signed Ivan Miroshnichenko to a two-year contract extension.

Miroshnichenko was drafted 20th-overall by the Capitals in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The 21-year-old forward has spent parts of the previous two seasons with the Capitals but has mostly played in the AHL. He scored 42 points (23G / 19A) in 53 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) last season.

LIndgren is expected to start in Buffalo on Saturday.

Lindgren has not been as sharp between the pipes as his counterpart Logan Thompson, but he will likely return to the crease on Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres. The 31-year-old Thompson has only played three games this season (1-2-0), posting a pedestrian 3.72 GAA and .882 SV%.

Charlie Lindgren
Strome (lower-body) is a game-time decision vs. the Islanders on Friday.

Strome did not play in Washington's most recent game, a 1-0 loss on Tuesday to the Dallas Stars, but could be an option on Friday when the Capitals face the New York Islanders. Strome is off to another hot start this season, with 10 points (2G / 8A) in nine games.

Thompson will start vs. the Islanders on Friday.

Thompson's personal five-game winning streak was snapped in Washington's most recent outing, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. The 28-year-old Thompson was nearly perfect, saving 18 of 19 shots (.947 SV%), but did not receive any goal support in the eventual 1-0 loss to the Dallas Stars. Thompson has been outstanding this season, boasting a terrific 1.44 GAA and .939 SV% in seven games (5-2-0). The Capitals enter Friday's contest as -211 home favorites against a New York Islanders team that lost 6-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes last night.

Leason has been loaned to Hershey (AHL).

Leason started his career in the Capitals organization but spent the previous three seasons with the Anaheim Ducks. He signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals on Monday, his second stint with the team, providing some organizational depth on a two-way contract. The 26-year-old forward has 54 points (25G / 29A) in 220 career NHL.

Thompson will start in Dallas on Tuesday.

Strong tandem netminding, led by Logan Thompson, has catapulted the Capitals to a 6-3-0 start to the season, ranking them first in the league defensively (2.3 GA/GP). The 28-year-old Thompson returns to the crease on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars, looking to improve on an already terrific 1.50 GAA and .938 SV% in six games (5-1-0). The Capitals enter Tuesday's contest as +113 road underdogs against a Stars team riding a two-game winning streak.
