— Bruce Garrioch (@SunGarrioch) November 15, 2021The Senators were scheduled to play the Devils in New Jersey on Tuesday night but the team has canceled its flight as 10 players and one coach are currently in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol. Ottawa’s game against the Devils New Jersey along with two home games against the Nashville Predators and New York Rangers later this week will be rescheduled.
Matt Murray, Nikita Zaitsev, Nick Holden, Victor Mete, Josh Brown, Connor Brown, Austin Watson, Dylan Gambrell, Alex Formenton and associate coach Jack Capuano are currently in the protocol.
Without nearly half of their roster, the Senators got trounced by the Calgary Flames on Sunday night by a score of 4-0.
The Senators have so many players in COVID-19 protocol that they had to sign Zac Leslie to a one-year contract in order to give them more insurance for a potential call-up. Leslie had been playing with the Belleville Senators on an AHL contract.
These games will be the first of the 2021-22 NHL season to be postponed due to COVID-19. The league has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
