The NHL announced that Tuesday night’s game between the Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets will be postponed due to the weather in Buffalo.

While the game was scheduled to take place in Columbus, it’s the weather in Buffalo that is causing the delays, as the Sabres are unable to leave the city to Columbus in time for the game due to the winter storms. While the temperature is only 6° Celsius/23° Fahrenheit, Buffalo currently has almost four feet of snow from a storm that has caused 27 casualties so far.

This is the second straight game for the Sabres that has been delayed due to the storm, as last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning also had to be rescheduled to March 4th, 2023. This is the third game in the last week to be delayed overall, as another game last week between the Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators also had to be rescheduled to February 27th, 2023. The NHL has yet to announce the date that the game between the Sabres and Blue Jackets will be rescheduled to.

The weather disruption may have been bad timing for the Sabres, as it may cool down a hot streak that the Sabres were starting to go on before the Christmas break. They had won their past four games before their last game on Monday, December 19th, and are currently fifth in the Atlantic division with a 16-14-2 record. However, their 34 points on the year are still eight back from the Washington Capitals, who hold the second wild card spot.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets might use the delay to have some more time to regroup, as they were on a six game losing streak going into the Christmas break, with all six losses coming in regulation. While they’ve dealt with numerous injuries, they’ve certainly disappointed many on the year after bringing in top free agent Johnny Gaudreau, with just a 10-21-2 record that puts them in last in the Eastern conference, and tied for second last with the Anaheim Ducks overall.
