Seattle started Grubauer in their first game of the season and have alternated goalies in each game since. They will likely return to Grubauer between the pipes in their fifth game of the 2024-25 campaign on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. Seattle is 2-2-0 to start the season, with both of their wins coming when Grubauer was the backup to Joey Daccord. The extension mirrors the recent extension signed by fellow American netminder Jeremy Swayman with the Boston Bruins two weeks ago. Oettinger was the Stars' 26th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and has cemented himself as their starting goalie for the last three seasons. The 26-year-old Oettinger has a 2.49 GAA, .914 SV%, and 11 shutouts in 196 career appearances (116-48-23).
