Skaters
Sean Couturier

Couturier’s last game was December 18th; he missed the final 53 games after undergoing back surgery on February 11th. Couturier had 17 points (6G / 11A) in 29 games, representing his worst points-per-game (0.59) finish since 2017. He has been cleared for the start of training camp, so expect Couturier to be available for Game 1 on October 13th. Couturier played a ton with Claude Giroux last season and struggled without him. With Giroux now in Ottawa and a lack of quality wingers in Philadelphia, Couturier could struggle to get back to 60 points in 2023.
Travis Konecny

Konecny had three straight 20-plus goal seasons from 2018-to-2020 but has averaged just 17 goals per 82 games over the last two seasons. On a positive note, Konecny played a career-high 17:37 ATOI and had the best shot volume (9.49 SOG/60) of his career in 2021-22. Positive regression to his SH% should allow Konecny to get back to 25 goals with his new-found shot volume. He should play a prominent role next to Couturier on the Flyers’ top line, making Konecny one of the few viable fantasy options in Philadelphia this season.
Cam Atkinson

Atkinson averaged over 30 goals from 2016-to-2019 but has seen his SH% plummet in the last three seasons. As a result, he’s averaged just 24 goals per 82 games. However, with a lack of quality options in Philadelphia, Atkinson will continue to play a huge role in the top-6 and on the power-play. His shot volume has dipped in recent years but remains in the top 60 with 9.7 SOG/60, suggesting he can still score 25-plus goals with 20-to-25 assists.
Tony DeAngelo

After playing just six games in 2021, DeAngelo returned to the NHL in 2022, scoring ten goals with 41 assists (51 points) in just 64 games with the Hurricanes. In his last two full seasons, DeAngelo has a 0.79 points-per-game, good for eighth among defensemen. After being traded to Philadelphia in the offseason, DeAngelo is set to take over on their top power-play unit and could play huge minutes on the top pairing next to Ivan Provorov. The Flyers’ offence is not expected to be nearly as good as Carolina was a season ago, so there will be some drop-off for DeAngelo. Still, he should be able to produce low-end No.2/high-end No.3 fantasy numbers with a questionable plus/minus.
Joel Farabee

A mix of upper-body injuries and illness cost Farabee 19 games in 2021-22. He finished with just 34 points (17G / 17A) in 63 games, and his pedestrian 0.61 points-per-game over the last two seasons ranks tied for 155th in the NHL. The 2018 No.14 overall pick is a great skater and should play a large enough role to be a 20-20 player, but he will be nowhere near your roster on draft day.
Ivan Provorov

With DeAngelo in town, Provorov’s already modest power-play production will likely worsen. However, he’s a durable defenseman that rarely misses games, plays massive minutes, and produces at 5v5. He’s got top-25 shot volume at the position and can score double-digit goals with 20-to-25 assists. He’s a low-end No.4/high-end No.5 fantasy option.
Owen Tippett

Tippett was drafted No.10 overall in 2017 but has yet to make a significant impact at the NHL level. The 2022-23 season could be his best opportunity, his first full season with the Flyers. Following a midseason trade to Philadelphia, Tippett went from 12:32 ATOI to 15:12 and scored four goals with three assists (seven points) in 21 games. His shot volume was encouraging, as he could fire 200-plus shots on net if he continues to play over 15 minutes per night. He was a pure sniper at the OHL and AHL levels, so there’s reason to think his 7.9 SH% could improve. If it does, Tippett could have 20-plus goals. There are a lot of questions here, though, so he’s only someone worth monitoring in deep leagues.
Cam York

York’s day will come; he posted great numbers at the University of Michigan and the AHL but needs a more straightforward path to minutes to make a difference in the NHL. With Provorov, DeAngelo, Rasmus Ristolainen, Travis Sanheim locking down the top-4, and DeAngelo running PP1, York will be limited throughout the season.

Ristolainen only holds value in banger leagues. He’s probably going to finish around 20 points, but he’ll be near the top-10 in hits.
Goalies
Carter Hart

Hart bounced back from a disastrous 2021 season, where he had the worst GAA (3.67) and SV% (.877 SV%) in the NHL. His improvement was a .905 SV% (t-34th) and 3.16 GAA (41st). Unfortunately, the Flyers certainly aren’t better than the team that had the third-worst xGA/60, so Hart will likely struggle for a third straight season. The only positive for Hart is that he’ll see a ton of starts, but he’s nothing more than a No.3 fantasy option.
