2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Round 1 series picks

No matter how confident we feel about our Stanley Cup playoff predictions, some team will surprise us every single year. That’s part of the fun, isn’t it? All our predictions look good on paper, as they bring that crazy ole thing called “logic” into the equation, but then the games start and all the randomness begins.

So what do the Daily Faceoff staffers expect to happen in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs? We have a strong consensus for some series but not for others. We’re all extremely confident that the Edmonton Oilers will cruise past the Los Angeles Kings, that the Colorado Avalanche will handle the playoff-rookie Seattle Kraken, that the Dallas Stars are up for the challenge from the Minnesota Wild, that the Boston Bruins have no first-round choke in the offing against the Florida Panthers. We almost all like the New York Rangers to prevail over the New Jersey Devils, albeit we’re predicting a very close series. As for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders and the Vegas Golden Knights and Winnipeg Jets? We are flipping a coin, with predictions varying wildly.

Whatever happens, the only thing we can safely predict is that something happens that no one could’ve predicted. Here is a snapshot of Round 1 picks from Daily Faceoff’s senior staffers.
