After one season wearing special black uniforms with sparkly gold accents, the Boston Bruins have returned to their modern jerseys as Fanatics takes over from Adidas as the National Hockey League’s official uniform supplier.

The Bruins introduced special home, road, and alternate jerseys last summer to commemorate their 100th anniversary in the NHL, but they were never intended to be permanent.

Bruins captain Brad Marchand starred in a video published to the team’s Twitter account on Wednesday morning formally introducing the team’s “new” Fanatics uniforms.

In making the switch official on Wednesday, the Bruins reintroduced a jersey template that has existed in its broad strokes since 2007, when the club introduced its modernized “Spoked B” logo alongside the debut of the Reebok Edge line of jerseys.

The Bruins made only minor simplifications to their home and road uniforms when the league switched from Reebok to Adidas in 2017, and their new Fanatics uniforms are practically identical to their pre-2023 Adidas forerunners.

As Daily Faceoff‘s Frank Seravalli outlined in a feature story on Wednesday morning, Fanatics elected to make only minor alternations to the jersey template Adidas introduced seven years ago. Gone are the dimples on the shoulders; aside from that, the only changes are the Fanatics logo above the nameplate, a new holographic NHL shield on the collar, and some extra reinforcement around the elbows.

The Bruins won the Stanley Cup against the Vancouver Canucks in 2011 and reached the Final in 2013 and 2019 while wearing their modern-style sweaters. They enjoyed far less success in their centennial uniforms, bowing out against the Florida Panthers in the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It remains to be seen whether the Bruins deploy an alternate uniform in the 2024-25 season — and, if they do, what it might look like. From 2019 to 2023, the Bruins wore a black third jersey with no yellow shoulder yoke and a giant letter B on the chest; in 2023-24, they wore a beige alternate bearing a 1940s-era crest.

In March 2023, Fanatics signed a 10-year deal with the NHL to become the league’s official jersey supplier from 2024-25 to 2033-34. The American sportswear company previously manufactured “Breakaway” replica jerseys for the league while Adidas made the on-ice products.
