Only one player was placed on waivers on Tuesday, as the Boston Bruins made forward Max Jones available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.

If Jones clears on Wednesday, he will be eligible to be assigned to the Bruins’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

The move might be in connection with the Bruins’ recent signing, as they added veteran forward Tyler Johnson for the remainder of the season. If Jones were to go down to the AHL, his $1 million cap hit would be off Boston’s books.

It would be the first time in a long time that the Rochester, Michigan native would be found in the minors. Jones has spent the last four seasons with the Anaheim Ducks as a full-time NHLer, though he has been hampered by injuries that caused him to miss chunks of the last couple of campaigns. The last time Jones appeared in an AHL game was during the 2019-20 season as a member of the San Diego Gulls.

After six seasons with the Ducks, the team that took Jones in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft, Jones signed a two-year contract with the Bruins this past summer. So far this season, the former London Knight has appeared in four games, most recently seeing 14:33 of ice time against the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 31, when Jones registered a plus/minus of -3 in an 8-2 loss.

In his short time with the Bruins, Jones has averaged a little over 11 minutes of ice time and is a -4.

In 262 career NHL appearances, Jones has scored 31 goals and 31 assists for 62 points, and has never played in a Stanley Cup Playoff game.

In 51 AHL games, all with the Gulls, he scored 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points.
