Pospisil has one more year remaining on his current two-year contract that he signed in February 2024, which has a cap hit of $1 million.
Pospisil has proven to be a tough customer in his first two seasons with the Flames. After spending four seasons with the organization’s American Hockey League affiliate in Stockton and Calgary, the Slovakian native became a full-time member of the Flames during the 2023-24 season. That year, he scored a career-high eight goals, along with 16 assists for 24 points. He also produced 109 penalty minutes, finishing ninth in the NHL.
This past year, he appeared in 81 games, scoring four goals with a career-best 21 assists and 25 points, with another 84 minutes in penalties.
While Pospisil has proven he has the talent to be a big-leaguer, his physical nature has given him some trouble at times. In March 2024, he was suspended for three games for checking then-Seattle Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn from behind. He was ejected for elbowing Winnipeg Jets defender Josh Morrissey less than a month later. This past January, Pospisil received another game misconduct for boarding Chicago Blackhawks forward Taylor Hall.
All this to say, the Flames know they have something interesting with the 23-year-old. If he can do a better job at keeping his nose clean while still providing that grit, he can be a key player in Calgary for years to come.
