Can Ryan Lindgren truly help deepen Avalanche’s blueline?

The hockey world saw a big trade on Sunday, with the Colorado Avalanche acquiring defenseman Ryan Lindgren and forward Jimmy Vesey from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Calvin de Haan, forward Juuso Parssinen, a 2025 conditional second-round pick and a 2025 conditional fourth-rounder.
The second-round pick will be whichever is the better of the two picks from the Carolina Hurricanes or the Avalanche. The fourth-round selection will be the best between the Avs and the Vancouver Canucks.
The 27-year-old Lindgren has spent his entire seven-year career with the Rangers, scoring 12 goals and 87 assists for 99 points and 100 penalty minutes in 387 career regular-season games, averaging 19:06 of ice time per game.
Now joining the Avalanche at 50 percent retained, Lindgren has a chance to provide some physicality and top-tier penalty killing in a Colorado lineup that’s thin on the blueline.
On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the trade and what Lindgren can provide an Avalanche lineup that’s fighting in the Central Division.
Tyler Yaremchuk: From the Avs perspective, how convinced are you that Lindgren is the solution to their problems?
Frank Seravalli: Not totally convinced, but worth the gamble. Without question, he makes the Avalanche better. That third pair has been dreadful, and in fact, the bottom-three of that defense corps has really struggled.
Lindgren is a warrior, I love what he’s done in the playoffs for the Rangers. His commitment to winning and what he’s willing to do, putting his body on the line, it should be commended.
The turnovers and mistakes can definitely be glaring, but he’s way better than what Colorado had, and for a mid-to-late second-round pick, it’s decent value.
