Stars sign Trey Taylor to two-year, entry-level contract

The Dallas Stars have announced that the club has signed defenseman Trey Taylor to a two-year, entry-level contract to begin in the 2025-26 season. As part of the agreement, Taylor will join the AHL affiliated Texas Stars for the balance of the current campaign on an amateur tryout.
A 23-year-old native of Richmond, B.C., Taylor joins the Stars as an undrafted free agent.
Through 39 appearances this season with the NCAA’s Clarkson Golden Knights, Taylor finished with nine goals and 20 assists to rank first in team scoring among defensemen with 29 points. For his efforts, Taylor was recognized as the ECAC’s Best Defensive Defenseman for the second consecutive season. In all, through three seasons with the Golden Knights, Taylor totaled 16 goals and 38 assists for 54 points in 110 total appearances. Among the highlights, in his sophomore season in 2023-24, Taylor was named to the ECAC’s Second All-Star Team after posting 17 points counting four goals and 13 assists in 35 outings.
Prior to committing to Clarkson, Taylor spent a single season with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms where through 53 appearances he finished second in team scoring and first among defenseman after tallying 43 points counting 10 goals and 33 assists, a performance that earned the budding blue-liner a spot on the USHL’s Third All-Star Team at year’s end.
Earlier Monday, the Stars also agreed to terms with Clarkson left winger Ayrton Martino, who signed a two-year, entry-level contract following a standout season with the Golden Knights in which he paced the squad in all major offensive categories counting 25 goals, 26 assists, and 51 points. For his efforts, Martino was recognized as the ECAC’s Player of the Year and finished as a Hobey Baker Finalist, presented annually to the top college hockey player. Martino was originally chosen by the Stars in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
