On Sunday, Phiadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere announced the team has re-signed defenseman Egor Zamula to a two-year contract. The deal will carry an AAV of $1.7 million through the 2025-26 season. He will be come a restricted free agent with arbitration rights at the end of the contract.

It is a small pay bump for the Zamula. On a one-year contract this past season, the Russian defenseman had a $775,000 cap hit.

Zamula went undrafted coming up through the ranks, but was signed to an entry-level contract during training camp in 2018. He spent the next two seasons with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League before coming into the Flyers’ fold for the 2020-21 season, making his NHL debut on April 27, 2021. He split time between Philadelphia and its American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, playing the majority of his first three seasons in the minors.

However, Zamula was with the Flyers for the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign, scoring his first NHL goal on Oct. 17. He ended up scoring five goals and 16 assists for 21 points in 66 games, registering a plus/minus of+3 and an average of 16:03 of ice time.

The Chelybasinsk native has appeared in a total of 92 NHL games, with five goals and 20 assists, with a -2 rating and 15:42 average time-on-ice.

In 127 AHL appearance, Zamula has registered five goals and 49 assists and a -1 rating.

Over his career, Zamula has represented his country on a few occasions. Along with playing the CHL/Russia Super Series in 2019, he played for Team Russia at the 2018 IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship, taking home silver from the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship.

With the signing, the Flyers have 45 standard player contracts on board of the 2024-25 campaign. According to CapFriendly, Philly is over $800,000 over the cap, but are expected to use long-term injured reserve once the season gets underway.
