The Carolina Hurricanes have a number of roster decisions to make this offseason, including what to do with forward Martin Necas.

All signs are pointing to Necas being available on the trade market and now it’s up to general manager Eric Tulsky to find a return that works for the Hurricanes heading into next season and beyond.

Necas, 25, is a pending restricted free agent who recorded 24 goals and 53 points in 77 regular season games in 2023-24 and managed to chip in with another nine points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games. His game is built on speed and offensive awareness and Necas loves to shoot the puck, finishing last season leading the Hurricanes with 231 shots on goal.

Necas made $3 million annually on his last deal and will be looking for a significant raise on his next contract. A contract that seems very likely to be coming from another organization.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live, from beautiful Sunrise, Florida, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discussed Necas’ future, and had this to say:

Tyler Yaremchuk: What are some of the sticking points in a potential Martin Necas trade?

Frank Seravalli: I don’t know that there are any. I think the ‘Canes are just trying to get the best deal that they can possible. I think everyone probably has a pretty clear idea of what the next Marty Necas contract looks like, if it’s not exactly 7x$7.5(million), it’s probably pretty close. Maybe the ‘Canes can help you out and do the old sign, then trade to get the eighth year, but either way, I don’t view the contract as being incredibly problematic. Necas is a guy, 25 years old and already has a 71-point season under his belt.

So, I think it’s just about finding the right blend for the Hurricanes between roster pieces and between draft picks. Which one do you lean more towards, if you take the draft picks can you package them to get something else and then of course, the Jake Guentzel question about you know, trying to get something back in return for his signing rights.
