The Carolina Hurricanes added another piece to their roster on Monday, signing defenseman Sean Walker to a five-year, $18 million contract, according to TSN insider Pierre LeBrun.

The contract will have an AAV of $3.6 million.

Last season, Walker scored 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 81 games split between the Philadelphia Flyers and Colorado Avalanche. In his prior five seasons, he played for the Los Angeles Kings, scoring 16 goals and 51 assists for 67 points in 232 games.

Undrafted out of college, Walker played four seasons with Bowling Green State University in the NCAA, scoring 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points in his final season, where he served as captain.

Earlier in the day, the Hurricanes signed defenseman Jaccob Slavin to an eight-year, $51 million deal with a $6.43 million AAV.

Slavin, 30, is entering the final year of his seven-year contract with a $5.3 million cap hit that he signed with the Canes in the 2017 offseason. He receives a raise of $1.13 million, with his new contract being the highest of his career. With this new extension, the Canes lock him up until he’s 39 years old.
