Islanders sign Kyle MacLean to three-year contract

The New York Islanders announced Wednesday that they have signed Kyle MacLean to a three-year contract.

According to CapFriendly, the contract has an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000.

MacLean spent the 2023-24 season with the Islanders’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders, where he collected six goals and 16 assists for 22 points in 43 games.

The 25-year-old made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut last season and tallied four goals and five assists for nine points in 32 games. MacLean scored his first NHL goal on February 5, against the Toronto Maple Leafs when he deked out Ilya Samsonov and slid the puck past his left pad. MacLean added one goal in five Stanley Cup playoff contests.

Throughout his AHL career, MacLean has tallied 29 goals and 52 assists for 81 points in 200 games. MacLean set career highs in goals, assists and points in the 2022-23 campaign.

Prior to MacLean’s pro career, the Basking Ridge, New Jersey product spent a handful of years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Oshawa Generals. MacLean served as captain of the Generals from 2018-2020 and recorded 51 goals and 105 assists for 156 points in 278 OHL games.
