Team USA has rounded out their coaching staff on Wednesday, naming both John Tortorella and David Quinn assistant coaches for the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off.

Tortorella is entering his third season as head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, meanwhile Quinn will be on the bench of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2024-25, beginning his first season as an assistant coach. They round a coaching staff which also features John Hynes as an assistant and Mike Sullivan as the head coach. Sullivan is the bench boss of the Penguins and will of course be working closely with Quinn throughout the NHL season, meanwhile Hynes is the head coach of the Minnesota Wild.

The 4-Nations Face-Off is set for Feb. 12-20, 2025 with both Boston and Montreal named as host cities. Team USA will be competing in the best-on-best tournament against teams from Canada, Finland and Sweden. It will be a round-robin style format with the teams having the best records advancing to the championship game. The tournament will essentially replace the NHL All-Star Game next season.

Team USA general manager Bill Guerin is excited for what’s to come for his squad and is looking forward to having a very experienced coaching staff heading into tournament play. “We’ve got a highly accomplished coaching staff leading our team and we couldn’t be more excited about the group,” said Guerin. “Their experiences – both unique and shared – will be a big benefit to our country as we look to bring home a championship come February.”

Per USA Hockey, between Tortorella, Quinn, Hynes and Sullivan, they have been on the coaching staff for 26 major international tournaments. including IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, IIHF World Junior Championship, IIHF Women’s World Championship, IIHF Men’s World Championship, World Cup of Hockey and Olympic Winter Games.

Back in June, Team USA named their initial six players to their roster which included Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, Quinn Hughes, Charlie McAvoy, Matthew Tkachuk and Adam Fox. The teams are expected to fill out their rosters by early December.
