A young blueliner is sticking around the Tri-State Area.

On Tuesday, the New York Sirens announced that the team has re-signed defender Allyson Simpson to a two-year contract that will carry through the 2026-27 season.

“I’m thrilled to be re-signing with the Sirens as we continue to create something special with this organization,” Simpson said in a release. “I’m excited to play a role in the league’s continued growth while helping shape the Sirens into a championship team. I can’t wait to get back on the ice with my teammates, old and new, and give everything I have for them and the fans who have supported us from day one.”

Simpson was initially taken by the Sirens in the third round, 16th overall, of the 2024 PWHL Draft, signing a one-year contract shortly thereafter. It gave her the opportunity to play with head coach Greg Fargo, the man she played five years for at Colgate University.

While the Sirens struggled once again, especially in the second half of the season, Simpson showed flashes of being an effective blueliner for a growing team. In 30 games, the Frisco, Texas native scored a goal and four assists for five points. Her lone goal game on Feb. 2 against the Montreal Victoire. She registered a plus/minus of -11 while averaging close to 20 minutes of ice time per game.

Simpson played well over 20 minutes in the final couple of months of the season, especially after teammate Maja Nylén Persson went down with a season-ending injury in March. She played over half an hour twice in her rookie campaign, including a season-high 34:33 against the Minnesota Frost on Dec. 22.

The Sirens ended up finishing last for the second year in a row, leading to the team having the first-overall pick in the draft. This year, general manager Pascal Daoust took Simpson’s former Colgate teammate, Kristýna Kaltounková, with the No. 1 selection.

While the Sirens made nine picks in the 2025 draft, the team still has plenty of roster spots available for next season. With Simpson’s new deal, New York now has a total of nine players signed to standard agreements for the 2025-26 campaign. Only Nylén Persson is also signed through the 2026-27 season.

While Simpson is a nice bit of business done, the Sirens still have to sign Rookie of the Year Sarah Fillier. The 2024 first-overall pick only signed a one-year deal and is a high priority for Daoust and his staff.
