A promising young player is staying in the nation’s capital.

On Thursday, the Ottawa Charge announced that the team has re-signed forward Mannon McMahon to a one-year contract for the 2025-26 season.

McMahon was originally taken by the Charge in the fifth round, 26th overall, of the 2024 PWHL Draft. She was part of a solid draft class that included Danielle Serdachny, Ronja Savolainen and Gwyneth Philips. The Maple Grove, Minnesota native scored her first PWHL goal in just her second game in the league, setting the tone for a solid rookie campaign.

McMahon ended up scoring four goals and four assists for eight points in the 30 regular-season affairs, posting a plus/minus of +2. Her best performance came when she scored two goals against the rival Toronto Sceptres on Jan. 14. She went from being a bottom-six asset to someone who saw first-line minutes down the stretch, playing well over 15 minutes a game over the final months heading into playoffs.

In the postseason, the 23-year-old appeared in all eight games, inclduing scoring the lone goal in Game 3 of the semifinals against the Montreal Victoire. Ottawa made it to the championship series, utlimately losing to the Minnesota Frost in four games.

McMahon is excited to be back in the fold for a team hoping to replicate its success from the league’s second season.

“I’m extremely grateful to be staying in Ottawa”, McMahon said in a release. “From the moment I got here, it felt like home. The fans are the best in the league, they’ve embraced me from day one and made this city such a special place for me to play.”

McMahon is a prime example of how the PWHL can prove to be an audition for the international stage. Her performance in the first half of the season led to her being named to the United States’ roster for the final stage of the Rivalry Series in February.

With McMahon under a new deal, the Charge’s main roster is just about full. Along with the likes of the returning Gabbie Hughes and Emily Clark, along with new faces such as Emma Bergesen and Anna Shokhina, Ottawa has 22 of a possible 23 players signed to standard contracts for the 2025-26 season.
