A huge deal involving one of the game’s bright young stars.

According to Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli, the Anaheim Ducks have agreed to a deal to trade forward Trevor Zegras to the Philadelphia Flyers.

In return, the Ducks are receiving Ryan Poehling, a second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, as well as a 2026 fourth-rounder.

The 2025 pick originally belonged to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Flyers acquired the pick in the deal that sent Ivan Provorov from Philly to Columbus. The 2026 pick belonged to Philadelphia.

Zegras is coming off a pretty rough 2024-25 season. Following a month-long absence after undergoing knee surgery in December, a three-game suspension in February further prolonged Zegras’ absence from the lineup. He ended up appearing in just 57 games, scoring 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points.

This came after an injury-riddled 2023-24 campaign where the former ninth-overall pick was limited to 31 games, posting just six goals and nine assists for 15 points. It’s a far cry from when Zegras posted back-to-back 60-point seasons, briefly putting him on a path to being one of the game’s best players, as well as helping progress the Ducks’ ongoing rebuild.

Zegras has one more season remaining on his three-year contract, which he signed in October 2023. It carries an AAV of $5.75 million.

Poehling had been with the Flyers since signing with the team as a free agent in July 2023. The former St. Cloud State star had a couple of solid seasons with the Flyers, posting 28 points in the 2023-24 season that saw Philadelphia narrowly miss the playoffs. This past season, despite missing time due to multiple injuries, the 26-year-old set career highs in goals (12), assists (19) and points (31) in 68 games.

Like Zegras, Poehling has one more year on his contract, which has a cap hit of $1.9 million.
