PWHL Montreal is bringing back another familiar face to its forward group.

On Monday, the team announced on Monday that it has re-signed Catherine Dubois to a one-year standard player agreement. The contract will take place during the 2024-25 season.

“I am extremely happy to be back in Montréal,” Dubois said in a release. “To have the opportunity to continue to play in front of the best fans! I am looking forward to reuniting with my teammates to play in front of such energetic crowds once more.”

Dubois was a player who really had to earn her spot on the main roster during the 2024 campaign. After being invited to training camp, she was initially placed on the team’s reserve list, and ended up signing two separate 10-day contracts prior to signing an SPA in February to be added to the main roster.

The 28-year-old was a physical force up front for Montreal, a team that had star power like Marie-Philip Poulin and Laura Stacey. Dubois ended up playing in 21 games during the regular season, scoring two goals and four assists, with a plus/minus of -4. She was held pointless in Montreal’s three playoff games against Boston, in which her team was swept. Dubois was a -2 in the semifinals.

“Catherine was not only a fan favourite,” general manager Danièle Sauvageau said. “She was very popular in our locker room with her consistent smile and contagious positive energy. We also know what she can bring to our team and foresee great things for her in her second season.”

Prior to coming to the PWHL, the Beauport, Quebec native spent the final year of the Premier Hockey Federation in her home province with Force de Montreal. Dubois also was on the PWHPA Dream Gap Tour for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns.

Dubois has represented her country in the past. She won gold with Team Canada at the 2012 and 2013 IIHF Women’s Under-18 World Championships, and silver at the 2017 FISU Winter Universiade.

Dubois was a five-year standout at the University of Montreal, where she helped the Carabins with the USports (then CIS) National Championship in 2016.
