Tulus was taken by New York in the third round, 13th overall, of the 2024 PWHL Draft. She was the third of four players from Luleå HF selected in the league’s second-ever draft.
“Her extensive international experience,” general manager Pascal Daoust explained in a release. “And repeated success makes this veteran player an important addition to our organization. Her leadership and talent on the ice will make each of her teammates even better.”
Tulus has been one of the most dominant offensive weapons of the SDHL over the past few seasons on a really good Luleå team. In four of her nine seasons with the club, the 28-year-old hit the 40-point mark, including posting a career-best season in 2023-24. Tulus scored 22 goals and 39 assists for 61 points, earning her the title as the league’s top scorer. Her efforts helped lead Luleå to a sixth straight SDHL Championship, and the seventh of her career.
Yet, despite all of that success overseas, Tulus feels like the time is now to join the hot new league in North America.
“I am excited and grateful to be joining the team and can’t wait to meet the players,” Tulus said. “Staff members and fans. I’m really looking forward to jumping on the ice with the team, and I can’t wait to see what this new chapter will bring to me.”
Tulus has an immense track record on the international stage. The Vantaa, Finland native has represented her country at the IIHF Women’s World Championships eight times and played at the 2018 and 2022 Olympic Games–taking home bronze both times. She helped Suomi win bronze at the Women’s Worlds four times, including silver in the infamous 2019 World Championship Gold Medal Game.
She is the second 2024 draft pick New York has signed, as second-round pick, defender Maja Nylén Persson, inked a three-year contract earlier this month. Currently, 15 players have been signed to SPAs for the 2024-25 campaign. However, first-overall pick Sarah Fillier has yet to sign a contract.
