PWHL Ottawa keeps on locking up players for next season.

On Monday, the team announced it has re-signed defender Zoe Boyd to a one-year contract that will take effect during the 2024-25 season.

“Zoe is a great player who fits our culture,” PWHL Ottawa General Manager Mike Hirshfeld said in a release. “Above all, she’s a young player who will continue to grow. She had already made a lot of progress before she was injured last season. I’m really looking forward to seeing how she develops next season.”

It was a tough inaugural season for Boyd. The 23-year-old started off strong, picking up assists in Ottawa’s first two games of the season. However, as the team cooled off, so did her play. In early March, Boyd was hurt in a game against Toronto, and ended up missing the team’s game against Boston in Detroit. She returned to the lineup on March 10 to take on New York but also ended up leaving that game early.

Boyd was later placed on long-term injured reserve and underwent surgery on her left wrist. This resulted in the Caledon East, Ontario native missing the rest of the season. She ended up playing 16 games, registering three assists, averaging close to 15 minutes a game, and having a plus/minus rating of -3.

“I’m absolutely ecstatic,” Boyd said. “I’m very grateful to the people who are giving me this opportunity to come back to Ottawa. I’ve said it many times. I think we play in front of the best fans and in the best market in the PWHL. I consider myself very lucky.”

The former Quinnipiac product stated that she is able to resume full training and is expected to be ready for training camp next fall.

With Boyd putting pen to paper, Ottawa has signed three players in less than a week, as Natalie Snodgrass and Aneta Tejralova have all signed on through at least next season. In total, the team has 10 players under contract for the 2024-25 campaign, including captain Brianne Jenner, goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer and forward Emily Clark who signed as free agents prior to the PWHL’s first season.
